Pleasant hotel close to lagoon

Posted May 12, 2016
Staff generally (although not all) most unfriendly. Felt uncomfortable asking for anything. Could be a super place but not the Caribbean atmosphere we expected. Wifi appalling. Food readonable but not 4star standard.

Don't expect this to be a top quality hotel

Posted Apr 12, 2016
I selected this hotel thanks to the fact that it claims to be awarded the prize of best hotel... If this is the best I can't even begin to imagine what good quality hotels are feeling. To start, they mentioned that the only restaurant open Saturday night required to be fully dressed (pants) to be able to eat. But this was never mentioned on the website or reservation. So to get there after a long flight and discover I couldn't have dinner was not pleasant. The room looks and feels old. AC vents were broken. Bathroom could be retrofitted and the towels... terrible! Looked old, felt old, and were torn and dirty. I asked about a late checkout option and was told that I would have to pay to stay a few hours on the hotel beach. I was told I could leave my bags at the hotel to go to the beach elsewhere. When I got back I was told "just go into that room and get your bags" and found out that my bags were "stored" in the room with a computer for all to use. I took my bags and no one checked if I was taking mine and not someone else's... When I booked this hotel it supposedly had free internet, they say free wired internet but that is using their computer. In 2016 a hotel not offering free internet (at least in the lobby area) is ridiculous. The room supposedly had "free bottled water" they just forgot to explain it is only on first night because that was all I got! I had many beers in Tobago and was impressed that they were always cold except at this hotel!

Pros: The location was nice and hotel itself was very nice.
Cons: Change the garden view to coup view. At least you were be prepared.
Location: We went else where to plan our tours. Too bad we couldn'tel.hot do it at the
Although the resort was very nice, our garden view ended up being the view of the chicken coup. The chickens woke us up in the morning. One night it was raining so the buffet was closed. We didn't know of the change of plans before we went down and were not allowed in the dining room in shorts, although the desk staff said it would be OK. It seemed the help desk was not interested in helping us with our tours. We were told to go to the beach next door and make our plans. The breakfast and lunch menus were fine but the dinners could have been better. We went out at night to eat else where. The beach was nice and staff were pleasing and nice.

Thank you for your feedback. We apologize for your dissatisfaction of the view of area residents beyond our property perimeter. Your concern is noted. When rain falls, our outdoor restaurant is closed and the option, if you are dining on property is our formal restaurant or room service. The dress code for the formal venue is outlined in your welcome letter and in-room directory. Our further apologies that it was not communicated clearly to you during your stay. As a guest on a breakfast plan, you also have the option of room service or many alternatives within convenient walking distance which you mention taking advantage of. Our reception staff are unable to reserve reef boat tours on property per request from the tour operators themselves. We are mandated to direct you to the ticket booth located at the beach next to us where the tours depart twice daily. We do apologize for the inconvenience your experienced. Wonderful that you enjoyed our menu offerings at various mealtimes and our great beach service. Thanks again for sharing your experience.

Not surprised that so many customers return every year as the hotel has a charm of its own. Our room was quiet with a great sea view on the upper floor and our housekeeper, Samantha, looked after us extremely well. The hotel beach never felt overcrowded and there were always sun beds available. There are several good eateries within easy walking distance. We have had a great and memorable couple of weeks. Thank you to everyone at Coco Reef.

Great location but beach was weak.

Posted Feb 4, 2016
Pros: Location, breakfast buffet
Cons: Being able to leave the beach, better kayaks and more water craft, better nightly entertainment
Location: Great location for eating out. We ate in a different restaurant every night and they were all good and within a few minutes walk.
Hotel was in a great location for walking to restaurants. Several things in our room were broken or missing but the staff was nice and attempted to fix and replace them. Be warned however - the beach is entirely enclosed by walls on either side so it is impossible to walk along the beach without exiting the hotel and walking about 1/2 mile to the next nearest access. We felt like we were in prison! Dive shop was hardly open so we couldn't use the kayaks as often as we wanted to.

Thank you for your feedback. Happy to read that our staff addressed your requests for additional amenities. Our man-made beach provides a safe, vendor-free environment which the public beaches in Tobago lack. If you wish to access a public beach, we are located directly beside Store Bay and approximately 20 minutes walk from Pigeon Point. Our Dive Shop managed by Undersea Tobago, is open daily between 9am and 5pm. It is unfortunate that you were unable to utilize equipment within those hours. Your comments are well received.

Tired and Needs Complete Refresh

Posted Jan 15, 2016
Pros: The staff were friendly. The location was great. The lagoon was lovely.
Cons: A complete refresh of the rooms.
A deluxe ocean view on second floor turned out to be mostly a view of palm trees, lawn, lagoon and....obscured in the distance, an ocean. It was dirty with bugs in the room. The towels were gray not white. Amenities were two small tubes of shampoo/conditioner; two tubes of body lotion; two small bottles of water and a roll of toilet paper. There was not even a box of tissue in the room. Coco Reef is a 20 year old hotel and is in need of a complete refresh. It was a tired and dated experience. There was even a hole in the bedspread.

Great hotel with wonderful staff

Posted Jan 12, 2016
Pros: Staff, quiet, setting, beach and location
Cons: maybe a little upgrade to the external and a little variation to the lunch time menu
Location: Location was great, very close to the airport but we didnt hear a plane!! a couple of good restaurants nearby, and a nice walk to pigeon point nearby
Great hotel with a dramatic, long winding, tree lined drive. The intial impact is wonderful with great views directly out to the beach and the sea. Reception are very welcoming, in fact staff across the board are very attentive and make it their personal mission to ensure we enjoyed our stay. The room was maybe a little dated but very clean and certainly big enough. Try for an ocean front room on the first floor for the best views. We had the bed and breakfast which was great and allowed us to get out and sample the other restaurants when we felt like it, there are a couple in walking distance and 5/6 a short taxi away. Breakfast is great, everything you want and more and lunch can be had at the grill down on the beach, we had the room service a couple of times and found no drop in standards. If anything, it would have been nice to have daily variations in the lunch time menu, but thats the closest i can get to criticism. Overall great quality. We had two weeks over Christmas and New Year and loved it. Mostly English:)/British and Trinidadians the hotels beach was quiet and very safe for children and funky enough for adults. Were telling everyone to get here, and we might be persuaded to try again next New Year:) well see Thanks Coco Reef

I appreciated the 'on the beach' feel.

Posted Dec 15, 2015
Location: Great options would be: cycling (rent a bike nearby); hiking - scenic areas on the shortline just beyond the airport; snorkeling and reef viewing.
I had not felt so relaxed on a loooong time! The peaceful beach and scenery allowed for the children to feel free to explore. I even fell asleep - right there on a yellow lounge chair, beneath a coconut tree canopy. My little one even questioned: "mom, do people come to the beach to sleep?" - it was that relaxing for me! I also enjoyed the warmth of the staff; service with a smile - even while on the beach, we were greeted with impeccable cocktail service. The breakfast mmm! - variety, ambiance, and a delightfully enjoyable meal. Thank you Coco Reef. I will come again.
