"Excellent location and attention In the eco friendliness they produce too much plastics by giving small bottles of shampoo, body lotion etc. Maybe the best would be to have big bottles installed in each room."

Top things to do in Veracruz

Go whitewater rafting, ride horses and enjoy seafood in this eclectic state with stretches of white sand and green mountains.

With indigenous ruins, old colonial towns and beach havens, the state of Veracruz is full of activities. The tropical seasons here generate lush green forests in the mountainous inland, while rivers and valleys add to the spectacular scenery. Enjoy the strong Cuban and African traditions here that influence the seafood and culture.

The weather is particularly hot and humid from April through August, so find relief at a beach on the Emerald Coast. In the northern part of the state, visit the laid-back Tuxpan for North Beach and Reforma Park. A little further south is Tecolutla, with quaint colonial buildings, a small park and beaches. Take a boat tour to the mangroves and spot exotic birds.

Nearby is El Tajín, an archaeological site that is a UNESCO World Heritage Centre. Marvel at the group of sacred temples from more than a millennium ago.

For a livelier scene, head south to Veracruz, known as “Puerto” to distinguish it from the state. Spend the evening in the Veracruz Harbour for its acclaimed nightlife and seafood restaurants. See the San Juan de Ulua Castle, the Carranza Lighthouse and the Naval Historical Museum in and around the port. Bring the kids to the Veracruz Aquarium a little south of the harbor.

Drive northwest for around 1 hour to reach the state capital of Xalapa for its excellent malls and galleries. Stroll through the Clavijero Botanical Garden and delve into the Cave of Orchids in the center of the city.

Aside from the communes, Veracruz has stunning countryside with myriad activities. Go whitewater rafting with a tour operator on Antigua River, the Actopan River and the Pescados River.

Note that the state of Veracruz is in eastern Mexico, about 220 miles (354 kilometers) east of Mexico City. Take one of the regular 1-hour flights from the country’s capital to General Heriberto Jara International Airport. Get around the state on horseback, motorcycle, bike or bus.

Veracruz is a tropical hub with white-sand beaches and forested mountains flanking the vibrant towns.
