This home is a fantastic gathering place, perfect for family time and making great memories! The home is very rustic and vintage which we all loved so much and the beach is just beautiful! Had everything needed for a comfortable stay, plenty of room and grounds are very nice. Washington is in the center of a lot of places to visit and things to do. We had so much fun and amazing quality time together, it was just truly awesome!

Peaceful holiday

‘Cabin in the Sky’ was a perfect restful holiday destination with everything at hand the family cooks needed. Gorgeous forest surrounding one of the most pristine lakes with most comfortable chairs, terrific kayaks and canoes. We loved our stay and hope to visit again. Thank you!

Amazing Property

My family stayed for Memorial Day weekend. Unfortunately, the weather was terrible the entire weekend. We made the best of it, which was easy at this property. I love walking the road to the beach! We will be coming back and hoping for sunny weather.

Great Getaway

Spacious, clean yet charming located in rural setting. Well-appointed, reminiscent of Scandinavian summer house in American proportions! Owner 100% responsive; many good suggestions for local activities near the cabin. A friend was also thrilled by the studio apartment, perfect for one or two. Labrador Juno loved her several daily walks to the lake.

A Taste of History

Being able to stay in a house with this much history was a real treat! When we spoke to the owner, who was very quick to respond to our inquiries, we got an idea of the history of the house and environs. We also enjoyed hiking nearby trails and walking in the fall colors. The lake is a short walk from the house on a private roadway which we did many mornings. The kitchen was very well stocked and beds were comfortable. An all around memorable trip for us!

"This house is a gem"

We just returned home from our stay at the "House in the Sky". This beautiful property was perfect for a peaceful getaway. The house was well equipped with everything you need for a comfortable vacation, it truly is a home away from home. The property it sits on is gorgeous, with it's pristine lake and wooded lot. We are hoping to go back again. Denny and Kathy

Didn't want to leave and can't wait to return

I was there with my daughter, her husband and 3 grandchildren. We all loved it. The house is charming and fascinating and very comfortable. The owner is extremely responsive and helpful. The house is not directly on the lake, which very briefly disappointed me, but then I realized that it is actually MORE FUN to take the VERY short walk through the beautiful woods to the lake. We were there in February and had so much fun playing in the snow , walking to the lake, and cozying up to the warm wood stove. I miss it!!!

Even better the second time

We stayed previously in October 2021 and had such a wonderful time that when we couldn’t travel to the Netherlands due to COVID, we thought we’d give the cabin in the sky another go. We stayed 9 nights with our dog Otto, and we’re joined the first weekend by our niece and nephew and my sister-in-law. The kids had a wonderful time skating at the lake and Otto made friends with a neighbors dog and they tuckered themselves out running around all afternoon. We had a relaxing week away from our cell phones and zoom calls, which in these times is just priceless.

Winter Break

We loved this cabin. It has so much history and has a cozy fire and lots space for the kids to hang out and adults to find a quiet spot to read. My husband loved listening to the records as there was a great selection of 60/70s music. My kids never saw a player before so that was fun! We enjoyed walking to the lake and our dog especially loved running through the the woods in the back and sliding on the frozen lake. It was fun to be snowbound during the snowstorm but lots of room to play in the snow. I wish we brought skates! It was a 30 minute drive to Pat’s Peak where we skied a few times. It’s equally close to Sunappe Mtn ski area. We would love to return and explore the area further someday!

A Wonderful Home for a Family Gathering

Alan's Cabin in the Sky is a perfect home for a large family to get away from it all. Besides the three bedrooms, the house has several public spaces that provide enough privacy that you can all be together (especially in the large, lovely great room) or find a place to tuck away quietly with a book. The great room and the nearby lake were our favorite assets, and we were there during the winter when we couldn't actually use the lake. The kitchen is amply provisioned and spacious enough that several people can work together. We stayed in the winter so didn't get to use the lake, the boats, the outdoor shower, or the firepit, but we can imagine the Cabin in the Sky would be a wonderful summer destination. One thing to note, the house is quite close to the road so our dogs needed to be leashed at all times. The short walk through the woods to lake provided a great place to walk them.

A lovely and relaxing stay

The Cabin in the Sky was a lovely and very relaxing place to stay. We found it very easy to relax immediately thanks to the comfort of the home and the way it is set up. They had anything and everything you could need. And we loved having the lake just down a private road that is right on the property (we would often drive because the hills can be a bit steep for the seniors). The beach had so many options for seating and boating, and the pond/lake was crystal clear and calm. We also took advantage of the general store up the road which had good food as well. And we went to Shaw’s for our larger grocery trip. Alan was extremely responsive and helpful. We were definitely sorry to see the week end. The only draw back was the stairs to the upstairs bedrooms. They are quite steep and our party was made up of two folks in their seventies and a 13 year old dog. But we made it work and the beds were comfortable. The layout allowed us to be doing different things at the same time without disturbing one another: my uncle could be watching TV in the living room, while I was in the old dining room doing a puzzle, or lying on the sitting room couch reading a book. We will definitely think back fondly of our time in Washington, NH!

The house was a very interesting house. It was charming and a fun place to stay.

The house was exceedingly well equiped with everything one needed and than some. The host definitly had a high sense of hospitality when he set up the house. Only on slight item was the distance to the lake, it was walkable but not for an older individual. The positive thing was it was very private and with the canoe and kayak and paddle boat we had a fabulous time. If you need cell phone service you should set up internet service for your cell to be able to make calls.

Stepping back in time

I loved the house with so many bits of history of times past. It was also nice that it had just about anything you could possibly need which makes packing less stressful. I would have loved to k ow more about the artwork that adorns the walls and yard. I felt very much at peace while there.

Great spot to be alone

The was the first vacation for my two young kids (I have a tween as well) we wanted a place where we could enjoy some sun/water during the Summer without crowds. This was a great spot for that, the lake is beautiful and clear, we also had amazing star gazing at night. Amenities included things we didn’t expect like canoes life jackets and fishing poles. Would just caution others that there are poisonous mushrooms on the beach so that children can be monitored more closely up by the tree line - easy enough to steer clear of.

Family get away

We had a great trip, our son (2 years old) enjoyed swimming everyday. We had to drive the road as we was too young to walk it and we did not know how hilly it was. We did encounter a deer one drive ! Was great to have boats already there to use. Only thing we wished we had was a clothes line back at the house instead of using the chairs to dry our wet clothes. The sun in the back dried our things so quickly!

Peaceful lake spot

My family wanted a getaway to somewhere quiet but fun and this house was perfect. The lake and private beach access was gorgeous and serene. My kids spent hours on the paddel boat and jumping off the floating dock. We also enjoyed the fully stocked kitchen with everything we needed. The games came in handy during a big rainstorm our first night. The upstairs beds were very comfortable and convenient to have the laundry close by. Our only issue was the downstairs bedroom did have a strong odor, so people sensitive to smells would need to sleep upstairs. Other then that, the house was awesome, eclectic and everything we hoped it would be. Also, 35 miles away from Clairmont where the Common Man restaurant is next to a gorgeous waterfall, definitely worth the drive! We would recommend this house for any family looking for a peaceful getaway!

Amazing lake front location and an adorable old farm house!

If you are looking for a very secluded, quiet and pretty property to relax for your vacation, that also includes dipping into the lake, this is your spot! The house is very large and spacious. Overall the interior of the house is decorated with the old farmhouse charm, but you will find more modern and eclectic pieces throughout still. We slept in the upstairs bedroom as that mattresses felt the most comfortable out of the few available. The bathrooms are dated and could use an upgrade. But if this is not a main focus of yours and a priority for it to be newly renovated, it is perfect and serves its purpose. The outside is stunning and nice and flat. The walk from the house to the lakefront is literally 3 minutes. Our dogs absolutely loved the morning swims and dunks in the lake. It was very quiet, calm and relaxing. A truly positive experience if you are looking to disconnect from the world. I recommend staying here!
