Visit Zhudong for a quieter alternative to neighboring Hsinchu City. Many of its streets are lined with historic redbrick buildings that provide glimpses of the township’s industrial past. Enjoy the views of the surrounding mountains from the heart of this serene hub.
On a sunny day, relax in Xiao Ru Song Art Park and admire the old Japanese architecture of the various structures. Enter the buildings and study the works of art on display in this complex, dedicated to a former teacher. Dine at one of the nearby noodle shops and get ice cream for your kids. They’ll love the attractions of the Zhudong Animation and Comic Creative Park.
Admire the floral displays on the sloped Zhudongxiqu Park. Next door is the Zhongyang Market, with fresh fruit and vegetables and exotic dishes. In the Zhudong Timber Industry Exhibition Hall, learn about the timber trade that helped the city grow. Check out the array of activities and exhibits at the Shuchilin Cultural Hall. Nearby, you’ll find the Tourist Information Centre, where you can find out about the latest events.
Stroll through Touqianxishengtai Park on the banks of the Touqian River. At adjacent Zhudonggougou Park, watch owners take their canine pets through the obstacle course for dogs. As evening begins, frequent the stalls of the Zhudong Night Market, which has all types of games, shops and places to sit and eat.
Study the historic redbrick buildings lining the Shang Ping Old Street. Marvel at the 19th-century Hwei Chang Temple and head into Hsinchu City for the City God Temple, among other sights.
Zhudong lies in the southeastern region of Hsinchu City, in the northwestern corner of Taiwan. Travel by train to the Zhudong Railway Station or the Ronghua Station, near the Touqian River. Get around the district by bus. Make your way through the area for nearby attractions such as the Iat Picnic, the Beipu Liutang Bald Cypress and the Jinshan Temple.
