In this case, when it doesn't provide any facilities outside the room. There's a rooftop bar in summer but nothing at other times. Staff were pleasant but breakfast was limited and when we asked for a second cup of coffee we had to pay for it. The room is large but was taken up by 4 double futons and a massive hanging screen for projecting TV/video. We felt it was intended for a large group who wanted to watch DVDs all day. Buffet breakfast has standard items plus dishes using local ingredients (or famous local dishes?) For example, miso soup with pork and pumpkin, rice mixed with squid, Swiss roll with sweet potato, apple caramel cake and mochi with red bean. No other hotel we stayed in had these. Compliments to the chefs! On top of that, there was a Kyushu Food Festival on at the Fukuyama Castle grounds the weekend we were there. We got to experience that. So lucky. Joining in to do morning exercises before sunrise in front of the castle was another memorable experience!!
