Katam Corner refers to the southeastern crook of the city walls, which remain remarkably well-preserved. The walls are fronted by a scenic moat replete with fountains. Green vegetation and floral displays mark this pleasant spot on the edge of the old city center. As you take in the views of the wall, consider its rich history and significance.
The red brick wall is part of Chiang Mai’s old city district which was constructed more than seven centuries ago. Notice how the corners appear to have survived better than the rest of the wall.
Fountains of various shapes and designs adorn the waterway in front of the wall, making for a dynamic and picturesque view. Stand beside the pretty pots of flowers embellishing the edge of the water and spot the plaque in the center of the wall that reveals the site’s name in English and Thai.
Arrive at night to see the wall illuminated in an orange glow. Consider the history of the wall, which was once part of the 13th-century Fort of Ka-tham that marked the center of Chiang Mai. The wall is free to visit and open to the public at all times.
Katam Corner lies between the Miang Kham Village and the Phra Sing districts of central Chiang Mai in northern Thailand. Arrive at Chiang Mai International Airport and drive northeast for 2.7 miles (4.3 kilometers) to make it here in roughly 15 minutes.
