We got a call from Expedia saying that they were over booked. We had a call from the George only 2 days before asking if we’re still coming as their computer had issues, I Said yes we’re coming as we had already paid then Nothing from the George inn. Expedia were great and sorted out alternative accommodation. I always book with Expedia and this is why!!!!

Lovely stay for the night . Staff were lovely . Room was lovely beds nice and comfy . Not overly noisy seeing as it was in the market square either . Free parking too .

In shopping area. It was a weekday so nice and quiet. The room isn't posh but had all we needed and was clean and spacious. Breakfast was lovely served by lovely staff. Would definitely stay again

Over night stay

On a positive note the staff were lovely, very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was freshly cooked and good quality, the bed comfortable and the bedding spotless. However the whole place inside and out, including the bedrooms and public areas, needs a massive refurbishment. The peeling paint on the front of the building is not a good first impression. Neither is the hole in the wall on the bedroom corridor. In my room, the television didn’t work, the fan was ineffective, the bedside cabinet stained and there was mould in the shower. Considering how much I paid, I expected more. My stay was definitely over priced and disappointing.

Short stay

I don't know what the website says about The George Inn, but I wasn't prepared for the number of steps to my room, 33 in total I think.OK for younger man but I'm in my mid eighties; a word of warning wouldn't go amiss. The room was clean and comfortable, the TV didn't work properly though and the plumbing was noisy. The staff were polite and helpful.

Comfortable bed

Building is a bit run down but bedroom and bed was very comfortable indeed. Staff friendly, great breakfast too. Central location adjacent to Selby Abbey.
