"We had a lovely one-night stay here - the owner and staff were super welcoming and helpful, and we enjoyed a great breakfast in the morning. We were in one of the attic rooms, which involved a bit of stooping on our part, but it was a lovely room all the same!"

Grey Street Hotel
10/10 Excellent
"Staff very friendly especially the breakfast staff. Excellent selection and beautiful food. Room was lovely although a bit dated but still very comfortable and spacious for the price and Location. Our second stay here and will definitely be back again. "
"Excellent location - just a walk dow from the railway station and within walking distance of other attractions and historical areas. Hotel was comfortable and clean. Our room overlooked the car park - a little disconcerting that the cars were on eye level with our room. However we were only staying for one night and arrived very late due to train delays."
"Good location - walked to the stadium and dinner. Room was clean and good size. AC was hard to figure out and we ultimately ended up opening the window to cool off - not sure how much is user error vs the system itself. Would stay again tho if I was seeing another football game"
"Clean, bright, spacious, quiet but near the buzz, not full of clientele looking very pleased with themselves, funky but not in your face funky. Great staff. "
The most popular time to visit Beamish is during the summer months, particularly July. This is when the open-air museum truly comes alive, showcasing its historical exhibits and immersive experiences under sunny skies. Average temperatures during this time range from the mid-60s to low 70s Fahrenheit, creating a pleasant climate ideal for exploring the vast grounds and engaging with costumed interpreters.
During the peak season from July to August, Beamish attracts numerous visitors eager to soak in its rich history and vibrant atmosphere. This busy period is superb for families and couples alike, as you can enjoy outdoor activities such as riding vintage trams, sampling traditional foods at the 1940s farm, and participating in seasonal events that celebrate local heritage.
For travelers who appreciate a more tranquil experience, consider visiting in late spring or early autumn, particularly in May or September. These months often feature fewer crowds while still offering delightful weather and opportunities to engage with the museum's various attractions. You'll be able to stroll through the beautifully maintained gardens or enjoy a peaceful picnic while taking in the historical surroundings.
