The Zacatecas Cathedral is an awe-inspiring symbol of the city’s historic prosperity, rising high above the city’s skyline with its central dome and flanking towers. See the carvings of four apostles, as well as motifs of plants and angels. Two towers flank the main façade and are topped with richly decorated columns.
Make your way into the cathedral to explore its contrastingly austere interior. See tall Doric columns and neoclassical side altars as you continue toward the high altar. Designed by Javier Marín, the gilded altar is 17 feet (5.2 meters) tall and features geometric niches that support 11 delicate sculptures. At the top, you’ll see the Virgin of the Assumption. At the main shrine you’ll see the sculpture of Our Lady of Zacatecas.
