Upon arrival to the North Wilkesboro Speedway, we met Kaki (pictured). She and I got to spend some time together. I found her to be a young, bold, and expressive person. Her energy radiated as we explored the ghost-like space, in constant awe of her surroundings. There were moments of tender emotion. She saw the value in everything we saw. Where many people would have shied away at opportunity, she saw an open door and adventure. Her perspective was refreshing and encouraging. I learned a lesson on openness this day, and it is definitely one I intend to hold on to. #appalachianechoes

Elkin Municipal Park Pool in Elkin, North Carolina. This pool is THE place to be in the warmer months of the year. It is where all the kids and teenagers go in their free time to swim, dive, eat, and hang out. It’s dingy appearance does not reflect the joy and fun that comes with this pool. The pool and park are the epicenter for kids because there is not much else for them to do. We like to think that having a wide variety of things to do is better but sometimes have a couple simple things can still bring great joy to those experiencing them.

"This condo was perfect for us. We came to the area to tour Appalachian State and ski Sugar Mtn, and it was located halfway between both. The condo was very clean and had everything we needed. The kitchen was well stocked and the bedrooms were comfortable. The view was very pretty. "
