Very lovely place to stay peaceful and quiet with lots of accommodation space. Mostly enjoy the huge space. Will definitely recommend

Very disappointing stay – major issue with trains In hindsight, I wish I had paid more attention to previous reviews before booking. The biggest issue by far is the railway line immediately next to the lodges. Trains pass extremely frequently, including late into the night and again early in the morning. Sleep was significantly disrupted for the whole family. There is no clear indication on the listing of just how close the lodges are to the tracks, and had this been properly disclosed, I would not have booked. The lodge itself felt very tired and dated. While it didn’t appear filthy at first glance, cleaning standards were poor — walking around barefoot left our feet black, suggesting the floors had not been properly mopped. There was also a persistent unpleasant smell within the property, and the en-suite toilet produced a strong odour after use, suggesting an unresolved drainage or backflow issue. Looking back at older reviews, this does not appear to be a new concern. Communication before arrival was also frustrating, with repeated chasing required for payment and check-in information. Overall, the stay was just “meh” — not completely awful, but certainly not relaxing, comfortable, or good value for money. The constant train noise and condition issues completely undermined the countryside experience being advertised. Would not stay again.

Nice clean well appointed lodge perfect for what I needed just remember to bring your own towel as not provided . I saw on a review this was the case and went with my own but might catch someone out if hadn’t read the reviews .

Weekend break

Lovely lodges, large and comfortable. Perfect for our family trip. The furniture is of excellent quality and although we did not need to use it, the little shop was an excellent idea.

Comfortable, spacious, well fitted - by a railway

These cabins have been fitted out to a high standard, are spacious and comfortable. We would like to have towels included but otherwise equiped with all that we needed. Unfortunately they are just next to a busy railway which rather destroys the otherwise peaceful location. There was a problem with the drains in the en-suite when we stayed which meant it smelt very bad. I expect this is a temporary problem with would be sorted soon.

When we arrived at the lodge we were supposed to be staying in there was another family there who said the lodge they were supposed to be staying in was occupied so they were given this lodge. We rang the contact number and he apologised, we were provided the key code for another lodge and when i opened the door that was occupied as there was a dog in there. We finally got put in a lodge and went to look at the hot tub to find it was empty and covered in spiders. The lodge is advertised with pictures of a working hot tub. I was then told this was an additional £120 fee that needed to be arranged with them prior to arrival. This was not stated on hotels.com and we are extremely disappointed as we thought we had grabbed a bargin of a lodge with a hot tub and this was not the case.

Excellent value for money and peaceful location, stayed with family for a local wedding no commitment of times to return back (early morning) a couple of the velux windows needed attention as water mark on ceiling if been picky, will be returning and using again, all mod cons fitted like been home from home

A break at shellow lane lodges

The lodge was ideally positioned in a tranquil location, we were able to get to local points of interest with ease. The lodge was clean suited out with all the required amenities, we would stay there again

Lodges are beautiful.Bigger than expected.Very clean,has everyrhing you will need.Beds are very comfortable.Only thing i would change is the bedroom curtains. Would have liked blackouts as sun shines in rooms very early.Wouldnt stop us visiting again though.Didnt get hot tub heated up as felt at £50 a night it was a bit expensive.Wish we had though as after 2 full days at Alton Towers could have been doing with it.Main bathroom had a huge bath which was greatti chill in.

Excellent (contact directly about hottub)

The lodge was a fantastic and cosy stay. Very clean, spacious and comfortable. We celebrated my mums 50th birthday and I couldn’t have booked a better place. Just be sure to get in touch about arrival details prior to arriving, as we waited a while for the code to the door. Would definitely recommend and book again. Also, be sure to contact the owner about a hottub, as I paid for one and was given a lodge without, which was highly disappointing.

After a nearly 4 hour drive we were "greeted" by a lady who demanded to know if we had booked a hot tub. I said we had and tried to show her the booking on my phone. She refused to look at it and explained that she would have to check with James to which lodge we were staying in. My email stated that we had changed from Maple to Oak as I had requested a hot tub after booking. But after trying to show her the email 3 times and her refusing I gave up. She called James and he didn't answer. She told us to wait in the garden of Oak lodge as we had a dog and she didn't like them. With no luck getting hold of James she showed us a different lodge which didn't have a gated garden which we explained wouldn't be suitable as we had booked Shellow Lane Lodges because it was suppose to be dog friendly. She had said we could have a different lodge but that the hot tub wasn't ready & the lodge wasn't clean yet. James then called and apparently said he had already promised Oak lodge to someone and had given them the key code so we couldn't have it. We ended up having to take the lodge that wasn't ready as it had a more suitable garden. While this was all happening she said we needed to pay for the hot tub...I actually had no idea that the hot tub wasn't included in the price when booking as the pictures on the site show a lodge with a hot tub. We paid her the £125 cash for the hot tub. Wifi was taken out. No towels. No Wifi No DVD player but DVDs.

Stunning place in a beautiful location. Great facilities, cabins built to a high standard and everything you need for a long weekend away. Management were very accommodating to our hot tub needs. We’ll be booking our third visit upon our return home

Nice in theory

Really nice for a family stay, at least in theory. Lodges look great at first but aren't in the best condition. Neither shower worked without flooding, the skylights leaked in rain, and the gas ran out after the first night. Nice guys running the place and the hot tub is awesome. In the middle of nowhere, which could be a pro or con for your visit (though a major train line is about 15 yards away, behind a tall wooden fence, which does rather spoil the effect when the place starts rattling).

Loved it

Absolutely loved it really nice warm clean totally remote which is what we wanted. Couple of things sleeps six easily but sofa only 5 comfy could do with a couple of bean bags. And main blip was internet wifi advertised but couldn't get it. Nigel was great tried his hardest. If you want peace and quite in a warm cosy lodge this place ticks all the boxes
