Set on a hilltop in the town of Amer (sometimes spelled Amber) is Amber Fort, one of India’s most majestic forts. The fort was commissioned by Raja Man Singh I in 1592 and has had several renovations over the centuries.

Visitors on the way to the nearby Amber Fort stop here to take photos of the palace from the lake’s edge. Time your trip for dusk when the scene is at its most beautiful, as the setting sun casts an amber glow on the glistening water and on the palace’s stone walls.
