The Lodge there is a great place to have lunch or dinner.
The cabins are older but we love staying there. Great price for a clean room without many amenities. A must is the Family style Chicken Dinner on the dining room, make sure you come hungry. Great hiking and lots of nature. A beautiful place. Great starting point for all the wineries on the wine trail. Orchards have peaches (July/August) and apples in the fall.
It is a great park with many trails. Park ranger is really nice. Giant city trail is moderate where you encouter unique rock formation, it is absolutely worth the visit.
Take a campus tour or just explore the area of Southern Illinois University, during your trip to Carbondale. Check out the shops and top-notch restaurants in this family-friendly area.
