“We frequently choose older motels that cost less. We look closely at their photos, and if it looks updated and clean we choose it. Usually we find it is owned/managed by an immigrant family, frequently from the Subcontinent, and they do an excellent job with the older property. The Royal Inn in Hudson, Wis., is such a place. It was very clean, the air conditioning worked well on a hot day, parked right in front of our room. Convenient location.”

“The Motel 6 in Hazelwood Mo was terrible! I’ve never felt more unsafe before. There are resident drug addicts that live here. Drugs being dealt day and night from the parking lot. Pretty sure prostitution is happening here. The only good thing about this place is the rooms was decently clean. But the bathroom door didn’t close so we had no privacy when using the bathroom or taking a shower. The shower drain was clogged and drained extremely slow. Pillows were flat and uncomfortable. We had to go……

“The Inn was a bit more run down than the pictures showed. The carpet in my room was very thick with long piles. The room, while cool due to the working air conditioner, had a damp feel to it. The toilet paper on the roll in the bathroom had a damp feel as did the armchair in the main room and the bed linens. The bathroom sink had difficulty draining. The walls in my unit were fairly thin as I heard a rather loud argument from the guests next door. With my Expedia rewards, I only ended up paying……

“Only one pillow per person. No way to have a bath since no stoppers were available. Staff didn't know their own wifi password. Furniture torn and walls gouged.”

“The motel reminded me a little of the motels from the 1950. My room was clean and nicely decorated. It had a coffee maker, a microwave, and a refrigerator that was larger than I expected. I was able to park right in front of the door to my room, which made moving my luggage easy. The room rates were reasonable compared with other motels in the area. They do not provide breakfast but there is a very nice restaurant next door that serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner with good food at reasonable……
