Splended home that transports you to another time while providing all modern amenities. Home is exactly as pictured and advertised, but the layout is so well designed making it spacious and easy to spread out for privacy. Every modern amenity is present but hidden out of view (air conditioning, appliances, internet is strong). The neighboorhood was safe and friendly with close by restraunts and small markets and easy walking. The host lives next door so he is available quickly for questions. I have no constructive feedback it was a magical stay and 100% would stay again.
Our stay at Greg's casa was everything we could hope for and more. We stayed a full week, but could have enjoyed far longer in this beautiful home. We spent most of our days exploring the Yucatan, but our evenings were enjoyed either poolside or in the massive kitchen. Everything was perfect! We would definitely stay here again next time we are in Merida.
I Can't say enough about the property. It is absolutely beautiful & extremely comfortable. I took notice also of how spotless & well-kept the property was when we got there. Simply outstanding.
It's not often you see pictures of a home that look absolutely wonderful and then you discover, when you arrive, that the place is way, way more impressive in reality than even in those pictures. But Casa de Las Torres is an example of one such home. It's impossible to describe the features and features of amenities of this historical house in one word, but magnificent comes close. It is large, comfortable and delightful to spend time in. We spent three weeks enjoying the house, the pool and of course Merida. Casa de Las Torres is well located close to the historic district of this sophisticated, exciting city. Gregory is a wonderful host, instantly taking care of any problems (there were very few of them). I would wholeheartedly recommend this casa for anybody visiting Merida, and can't wait to go back again next year.
This home was by far the most unique and interesting place I have ever stayed and probably ever will stay. It has been painstakingly restored to feel like a home (or perhaps a monetary) from the 1800s, when it was originally built. That is, apart from the air conditioning and swimming pool, which were an absolute necessity given the hot weather! The home is furnished with an impressive array of Catholic Church inspired pieces. Not a look I normally go for, but it really added another level of character to the place. The home is very spacious, including ample outdoor entertaining space. We really enjoyed every moment of it and will remember it forever! We were greeted in person by the owner upon arrival, who lives right next-door and was able to quickly assist with anything needed. The area of the home is in feels very safe, while it is only six blocks from the historic square, they are long blocks and there’s not much in the way of shops and restaurants for the first five blocks or so. Still, nice to be walkable if needed. Given the heat and the kids, we typically drove. Ubers are very cheap and readily available. Overall, I highly recommend this home for a unique, travel experience!
The most beautiful VRBO we have ever stayed in! It is grand and historic, like a cathedral or something out of GOT but still extremely comfortable and cozy. Looks just like pics. The intricate wood and stone give a very organic vibe. The fresco murals are everywhere, there is so much detail in this home. The courtyard, pool area, and open shower bring the beauty of nature in, like this place had been there for ages. The master is right off the pool area with tall iron and glass doors leading outside, one night we slept with the doors open! We hardly used the AC, the fans circulate the air nicely. There were some ants around the pool area and kitchen, but this is ubiquitous to this tropical area. We did not cook while there but the kitchen seems to be nicely furnished. All the furniture was comfortable, we esp loved the couches and chairs in the palapa. The front door leads into a foyer, living room, and huge dining area. Next to this are 2 nice sized bedrooms separated by a bathroom. You then walk thru the courtyard to get to the kitchen, another dining area, the master and pool area. So the house is kind of separated into 2 main areas by the courtyard. Host met us in person and was super responsive to any questions or needs. Uber is very easy to use to get around, I think it was around 5 to go downtown. Airport 20min away. Be sure to check out the numerous rooftop areas and patios and at the very top--the bell tower--perfect place to watch the sunset!
As others have said, even the stunning pictures don't do this place justice. From the moment you step into the rather unassuming front door, you're in a convincing recreation of a Spanish colonial mission. The artwork, the floor tiles, the furniture, the metalwork fixtures, the courtyard, the extensive rooftop gardens... at any moment, you expect Zorro to come bursting in to save the day.Four of us spent a month here, and even after two weeks, I was still finding some pleasing new detail in the decor, some overlooked clever touch in the design. We spent many relaxing hours around the pool in the quiet back courtyard. We enjoyed the open-air shower off the main bedroom.Yet for all its fidelity to a world centuries past, Greg's place is a modern home. In a first for us in Mexico, we could drink the tap water and flush the toilet paper along with the wastes. Yes, a faucet handle would occasionally fall off in our hands, but we chalked that up to charm.Greg is a tremendously attentive host. He lives in the adjacent building and left us perfectly alone unless we asked him for something: more coffee, another roll of paper towels. He'd deliver within hours that same day.The house may not work for people with walking disabilities. You must navigate several stairs to reach the front door and the main shower, and the bathrooms lack handrails. Not complaining — handrails would mar the 16th-century effect. Just be aware. Our stay was absolutely great.
Casa des las Torres provided us with the tranquil and luxe escape for which we were hoping. This was our first trip to Merida and we loved the quiet neighborhood yet we were only a short walk to the plaza grande. Greg responded quickly to any questions we had. When we return to Mérida, we will definitely stay here.
This house is even more impressive in person. No detail has been overlooked. Greg is an awesome host, very easy to communicate with and has excellent suggestions for dining.
Perhaps the most amazing vacation rental our family will ever stay in. Staying at this place was like stepping back in time. We loved the incredible attention to detail our host took with the restoration of this place, the iconography and period furnishings, and the way interior spaces interacted with the patio and courtyard. The feel of the place was almost sacred.
You are not worthy, but you can still stay here. Easily 2k a night rental in Los Angeles, but it’s in Merida! Look at these pics. Pool has a 20ft wall around it, 30 ft ceilings, custom built by skilled craftsmen, amazing. Manager steps away for all needs, but needed nothing. Washer and dryer!! Most amazing place I’ve rented in my life.
In the late fall of 2022, I had an opportunity to visit the home but for only a few hours. I left feeling inspired and awestruck by the beauty of the home and wanted to plan my return. I returned recently and was able to spend a week with my wife and a friend there. The home is so very unique and beautiful. The owner was easy to connect with through the app and we had no issues at all both planning or during our stay. Would HIGHLY recommend this property!
As others have said, this home is nothing short of amazing! The host is very helpful and close by in case you need anything. The house is something to behold. From the cute but unassuming outside, you step through the doorway into another time! This colonial era masterpiece is gorgeous! Greg did such a fantastic job on creating a space that is both modern in it's amenities but completely immerses you in a time gone by. There is so much thought put into the details. The private pool with a palapa at the back of the house was really nice and relaxing. Fantastic overall!
Greg's property is stunning, if a bit eccentric. Hidden behind an unassuming facade on a slightly shabby block is a gorgeous, private, quiet oasis. It is everything the photos on the site show it to be. Greg met us at the property when we checked in and let us know he was next door if we needed anything. The courtyard and backyard with the pool and palapa were lovely, the beds were comfortable and the house was nicely appointed. The open to the sky shower in the master bedroom was my absolute favorite, as you can shower amongst the plants and vines. The property is about six blocks from the Plaza Grande and somewhat further to the touristy Parque Santa Lucia, and it can be a very hot walk in the daytime, but Ubers are very inexpensive in Merida. Our only regret is not having a longer stay with this gorgeous house as a home base.
Walk trough the doors of this place and enjoy a little time travel. An oasis in the back that provides a place to relax as is if you were at the beach. A courtyard that is enchanting and a roof top that is the perfect to enjoy a breeze and enjoy some conversation with friends
It’s a short walk to the Centro and the market. We walked to town everyday and explored a new area every time. And took an Uber home. They are not expensive. And very realiable.
But back to the the casa, The Merida adventure starts here. If you are not looking for the ordinary and want to get wrapped up something new , this is it. Sink into a comfy bed at the end of the day , and enjoy a good breakfast to start the day. We met some great guests while we stayed here. Which just enhances our experience.
Arriving at our destination, the dusty streetscape of Merida outside did not hint at the grandeur and fabulous inventiveness of Casa de las Torres inside. From the magnificent entry hall to the fanciful rooftop, the spaces speak of a time past but with contemporary amenities. Clearly much thought and inspiration have gone into creating this relaxing refuge. The reconstruction employed local artisans whose skills were passed down in families. Our extended family group of four gathered morning and night in the main high-ceilinged rooms, including the kitchen, dining room and sitting area. Doors opened to the pool, with lush greenery visible from the pool area on one side and the central courtyard on the other. And that pool and cabana were a welcome place to cool off and nap following a full day in Merida or its environs of Mayan ruins and cenotes for swimming. We never needed the air conditioners. Coffee in the morning and libations at night were enjoyed on the rooftop, accessed by the spiral staircase. The sounds of tropical birds only added to the general magic of the place. Greg was an attentive but not intrusive host. We would definitely return to Casa de las Torres if our travels bring us back to the Yucatan.

A place I’ll remember for various reasons
This stay was the low point of our three weeks in the Yucatán Peninsula. The day before our arrival, I was told to inform the owner (Gregory Cassini) two hours in advance. When I did, he replied that he was out of town—and in a time zone seven hours ahead of Mérida. No one met us on arrival. Instead, we were left to retrieve the key from a lockbox. We entered a pitch-dark house, which gave us the eerie feeling of walking into Dracula’s mansion. To be fair, the house itself is impressive, with some truly unique architectural features. But cleanliness was an issue. We washed the dishes before using them, found dust throughout, and cobwebs in most corners. Ants and the occasional cockroach in the kitchen—fine, I’ve come to expect that when traveling. But a resident rat was too much for my wife. The pool looks inviting but the water didn’t appear to be filtering at all. The showers are more decorative than functional. The most frustrating issue, however, was the broken AC in the main bedroom. The owner initially implied that I didn’t know how to use the remote. After pressing the matter, he sent the property manager, but all the unit produced was warm air. Despite being seven time zones away, Dr. Cassini seemed confident that the AC was working—and I was not. Eventually, he told me he’d ask an electrician to check, noting that “you are the first guest to report an issue since we installed the new unit.”What stood out wasn’t just the lack of action—it was the lack of empathy.
