Once you've visited all of the interesting attractions in Punta Pacifica, there's a lot more to explore in the surrounding region. Pick up the keys to a rental car, stow your luggage in the trunk and hit the open road. We've pulled together some road trips we think you'll enjoy:

• Make tracks to Colon for a fun-filled sightseeing adventure. About 40 miles from Punta Pacifica, it has lots of inspiring attractions like Gatun Locks.
• Your next stop? It has to be Santiago, which is around 120 miles away. Escuela Normal Juan Demostenes Arosemena is one local hot spot you shouldn't miss.
• Starfish Beach is around 190 miles from Punta Pacifica and is one of the region's most spectacular nature spots. Go for a wander around and enjoy the fresh air.

If you don't have a driver's license issued in Panama, then you might need to acquire an International Driving Permit (IDP) in your home country in order to rent a car. Please also consider that if you do need an IDP, it won't be valid on its own. You'll have to show your current license your passport and other forms of ID as well. Lastly, make sure the credit card used to book the rental vehicle matches the name on your license and passport. Some added requirements for international car rentals are:

• Age restrictions: You need to be 25 or older in most countries to rent a car. If you're younger than that, it may still be possible to rent a car but you'll have to pay a Young Driver's Surcharge. Additional restrictions may also apply to what kinds of cars you can rent.
• Driving limitations: Be sure to read the fine print before sliding behind the wheel. Typically, you can't cross country borders, drive on ferries or go off-roading with your rental car.
