I recently stayed two nights at Hotel Los Lanceros in El Escorial, and while there are a few positives, this establishment falls far short of the 4-star standard it claims.

• The location is truly excellent. Just a short walk to the Monastery of San Lorenzo, restaurants, shops, and cafes. It is well-situated for anyone exploring the town.

"Really enjoyed my weekend at this peaceful, semi-rural (but within 20 minutes walk of El Escorial train station and 40 minutes uphill to magnificent San Lorenzo de El Escorial) B&B.
