With a history of indigenous people, Spanish missionaries and Texan Revolutionaries, San Antonio has a fascinating background. For an inspirational history lesson, book a hotel in the Alamo Plaza neighborhood, near The Alamo where David Crockett, James Bowie and others fought in vain to protect the old mission from an attack by Mexican General Santa Anna. Accommodations in North San Antonio are great for exploring even earlier history at the Walker Ranch Historic Landmark Park, which was a campsite for prehistoric hunters and gatherers and later occupied by Spanish soldiers and settlers. Southtown is a good place to stay to visit La Villita Historic Arts Village and the San Antonio Missions National Historical Park.

San Antonio is filled with places to enjoy rich cultural experiences. Hotels in the Alamo Heights neighborhood are close to diverse attractions including the Witte Museum and the San Antonio Botanical Garden. Downtown San Antonio is a convenient place to stay near the Broadway Cultural Corridor, featuring Briscoe Western Art Museum, the San Antonio Museum of Art and the McNay Art Museum. From a hotel in the San Antonio River Walk neighborhood it's a very pleasant stroll to the Majestic Theater and Charline McCombs Empire Theater for an evening of entertainment. West San Antonio is the place to stay to let the kids have fun at SeaWorld® San Antonio, with amazing marine animal experiences and thrilling rides, plus water rides at Aquatica San Antonio. Book a hotel in Oakland Estates, Stone Oak or Hollywood Park to be close to Six Flags Fiesta Texas. Accommodations in Alamo Heights are near Breckenridge Park, the San Antonio Zoo and the DoSeum, offering plenty of appeal for all members of the family.

Stay in Downtown San Antonio to stroll or ride along the lovely 15-mile San Antonio River Walk. Hotels north of the city in Schertz, Universal City, Selma and Live Oak are convenient for numerous great outdoor locations, including Universal City Park, Crescent Bend Nature Park and Converse North Park. Each of these neighborhoods is less than a 30-minute drive from San Antonio International Airport and Downtown. Moving south, Elmendorf is a good place to stay midway between Calaveras Lake and Victor Braunig Lake, both great for fishing. Book a hotel close to Lackland Air Force Base to enjoy several parks or play golf on a military base while cargo planes fly overhead.
