Pool Below, Laundry In, Sleeps 6: Casa Jade

Coffee on a screened balcony with the pool right below you, then a five-minute walk to the sand at Playas del Coco. This second-floor Las Palmas condo sleeps 6 (queen bedroom, twin bedroom, queen sofa bed), has two full baths, AC in every room, a real desk, and the thing almost no condo here offers: a washer and dryer inside the unit. Four community pools, a propane grill at your door, cafes and a mini market a block away, and Liberia airport about 30 minutes out.

Most condos in Las Palmas hand you a laundry card and point you to the cabana. This one has the washer and dryer behind a louvered door in the hall, so beach towels go straight in and your suitcase comes home lighter than it left. That small thing changes a week here more than anything else in the listing.

The rest of the morning goes like this: coffee on the screened terrace with the ceiling fans turning and the pool below you, a quick decision about which of the four pools gets the first swim, then flip-flops on for the five-minute walk to the beach. Casa Jade sits on the second floor of the Jade Beach complex in Las Palmas, the walkable, residential side of Playas del Coco, with cafes, a spa and a mini market a block away and the main strip 10 to 15 minutes on foot.

THE TERRACE
Covered, tiled and fully screened, so it works at 7 AM and at 9 PM without a single mosquito invited. There's a cushioned outdoor sofa, two armchairs and a coffee table, two ceiling fans overhead, and a railing view straight down onto the pool and gardens. The propane grill lives on the landing just outside the front door, a few steps from the kitchen.

THE LIVING SPACE
Vaulted ceilings and warm terracotta walls make the main room feel larger than its 753 square feet. A deep charcoal sofa faces the wall-mounted smart TV and converts to a queen bed at night. Sliding glass doors open the whole room to the terrace, and the mini-split AC plus the ceiling fan keep it cool when the doors are shut.

THE KITCHEN AND DINING
A real kitchen with granite counters and dark wood cabinetry: full-size fridge, electric range and oven with a hood, microwave, coffee maker, toaster and an air fryer, plus the pots, pans, knives and dishes to cook properly. Two stools pull up to the granite breakfast bar and the table seats four. A Juliet balcony door off the kitchen pulls a cross-breeze through the condo in the afternoon.

THE WORKSPACE
A proper desk sits beside the breakfast bar, with WiFi throughout and a quiet building around you, so a morning of calls or a deadline day is no problem. Close the laptop and the pool is thirty seconds away.

THE BEDROOMS AND BATHS
The main bedroom has a queen bed, its own AC, a wall-mounted TV, a dresser and an en suite bathroom with a vessel sink and a tiled walk-in shower. The second bedroom has two twin beds, AC, a TV and a window onto the garden greenery. The second full bath has a vessel sink and a shower, so nobody queues in the morning. With the queen, the twins and the sofa bed, the condo sleeps six.

THE POOLS AND GROUNDS
Jade Beach has four pools spread through mature tropical gardens, two of them with a shallow kids' pool attached, so there is almost always one with nobody in it. Loungers ring the pools, a shaded rancho and a stone-table gazebo sit under the palms for the hottest hours, and paved paths wind between the two-story red-tile buildings. A security guard is on the property from 6 PM to 6 AM, and your parking space is right there.

IN-UNIT LAUNDRY
A stacked washer and dryer, just yours, for the whole stay. Pack light, rinse the swimsuits, and skip the laundromat run entirely.

LAS PALMAS AND THE BEACH
Las Palmas is the easy version of Playas del Coco: the beach is about 300 meters away (a five-minute walk), and the Pueblito plazas a block from the condo have a cafe, a mini market, Mexican and Italian restaurants, a spa and tour desks. The main strip, with its seafood spots, taco joints, gelato and beach bars, is a 10 to 15 minute stroll. Coco is the launch point for Catalina Islands snorkeling and diving, sunset catamarans and some of the best sportfishing on the Pacific, and Liberia International Airport is about 25 to 30 minutes by car.

• The condo is on the second floor, reached by an exterior staircase. There's no elevator, so it isn't a fit for anyone who can't manage a flight of stairs.
• The view from the terrace is the pool and the gardens. There's no ocean view from the condo; the aerial photos show Coco bay from above the neighborhood so you can see how close the water is.
• Six guests maximum, little ones included. The nightly rate covers four; each additional guest is $10 per night and uses the queen sofa bed in the living room.
• Small dogs under 20 lb are welcome for a $49 pet fee per stay. Please tell us when you book, keep them leashed in the common areas, and off the furniture.
• The pools and grounds are shared with other residents. Pool hours are 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM and quiet hours run 10:00 PM to 8:00 AM. No glass at the pool, and children need an adult with them.
• The grill is on the landing outside the front door. Please close the propane valve after every use.
• The range is electric. There's a smoke alarm and a fire extinguisher in the condo. There's no carbon monoxide alarm, and nothing in the condo needs one: no gas appliances indoors, and the only propane is the outdoor grill.
• The entrance to the community is open during the day; a security guard is on site from 6 PM to 6 AM.
• This is tropical Costa Rica: expect geckos, the occasional iguana on the pool deck, and howler monkeys that start early. Please don't feed wildlife or strays.
• Tap water is treated, but like most guests on this coast we drink filtered or bottled.
• A car is optional here. The beach, cafes and the main strip are all walkable, and taxis around town are a few dollars.
• No smoking anywhere inside. No parties or events.
