Springfield, Westleton

This stylish single-storey holiday home is in the charming village of Westleton with its two gastro pubs and village shop. Dunwich Beach and heath on the Suffolk Heritage Coast are just a ten-minute drive away.

At the heart of Springfield is a sociable living/kitchen/dining room with doors opening to the garden for indoor/outdoor living in the summer, and a wood burner for cosy stays in the autumn or winter. A ratio of three bath/shower rooms to four bedrooms is ideal for family holidays or celebration weekends and you’ll find two king size beds, a twin room, and a double sofa bed. The parking and large, enclosed garden are an added bonus - relaxing for adults and fun for 'little guests'!

ENTRANCE HALL
You’re welcomed into the hall with space to leave footwear and coats. To the right is the spacious living/kitchen/dining room and, to the left you’ll find the four bedrooms and bathroom.

LIVING/KITCHEN/DINING ROOM
Opening off the hallway, this massive room has the kitchen to the right where built-in units house an electric oven, a four-ring hob with extractor above, a fridge with five shelves and a freezer with two deep drawers beneath it, a microwave, a kettle and a toaster. At the other end of the room, there are a couple of generous sofas and chairs where you can cuddle up to watch a film on the wall-mounted TV and enjoy the warmth from the wood burner; there are also games and a selection of books to choose from. The dining table sits in the centre of the room with room for big family meals.

KING WITH EN-SUITE
The elegant king size bed takes pride in place between bedside drawers and there’s storage in a handsome wardrobe.
EN-SUITE SHOWER ROOM
A pocket door opens into the en-suite where the shower cubicle has a hand-held shower and there’s a WC, a wash basin with a vanity unit beneath and a towel rail (towels are provided).

TWIN BEDROOM
Sitting at the corner of the house this sunny bedroom has sturdy twin beds with a butler’s table between them and there’s plenty of room in the chest of drawers for you to unpack and settle in.

KING WITH EN-SUITE
Light streams into this room which sits at the front corner of the house, furnished with a king size bed between bedside tables with a wardrobe and a tall boy for your clothes.
EN-SUITE SHOWER ROOM
Another chic en-suite with a corner shower cubicle, wash basin in a vanity unit, a WC, heated towel rail and natural light.

BEDROOM FOUR/STUDY
You’ll find bedding for the quality double (4ft 6inch) sofa bed in the chest beneath the TV in this room so you can use it as a TV room during the day and easily make it up for bedtime.

FAMILY BATHROOM
This room is conveniently located off the hallway for use throughout the day or for guests staying in the twin and study rooms. The bath has a wall-mounted hand-held shower over it with a shower screen, and there’s a wash basin in a vanity unity, a WC, a heated towel rail and lots of daylight.

OUTSIDE
Westleton is a quintessential Suffolk village surrounded by wonderful walks and cycle routes with exciting places to explore – RSPB Minsmere, historic Dunwich, picturesque Southwold and much more. The Westleton Crown and The White Horse Inn a few minutes walk from the house are both great pubs and there’s a village shop, book shop and village green.

Springfield sits back from the road with a gate opening into the gravel drive where there’s space for three cars and a lawned area with a bench so you can catch the sun. The garden wraps around the side of the house to the back where there are a couple of patio areas furnished for outside dining or simply lounging in the sunshine. There’s a large lawn where children can bounce on the trampoline (supervised at all times), a table tennis table, cricket bats and other fun things. The garden is enclosed (once the five-bar gate is closed), however, we advise you to supervise children and dogs as the drive opens onto a busy road.

NOTE
The property is single-storey so suited for guests with a mobility issue, however, there is a lip into both shower cubicles and a step to the front door. Hard flooring runs through the house other than in the bedrooms which are carpeted.

What's nearby

  • In an area as steeped in history as the Suffolk Coast, it takes something special to stand out. Dunwich manages to do just this. Known as the lost city of England, this tiny village certainly has a story to tell.

Dating back to Anglo-Saxon times, Dunwich once stood proud as the capital of the Kingdom of the Eastern Angles, at its mightiest matching 14th century London for size. It was a seat of power for the Anglo-Saxon bishops for centuries, an international port, and the Domesday book of 1086 puts the population at over 3000.

The little village of Dunwich was once a thriving seaport; but over the centuries the sea reclaimed the town leaving not much behind except for a wonderful stretch of beach. This expanse of shingle seems to go on forever in both directions, backed by low crumbling cliffs.

Dunwich beach is set in a break between the cliffs where the road literally ends on the beach. Here you will find a number of small boats pulled up on the sand and a the National Trust tearoom.
In fact, the National Trust own the beach and much of the surrounding countryside including Dunwich Heath which runs along the coast. This whole area is teeming with wildlife which thrive in these rare habitats.

Just a short drive from Dunwich you will find RSPB Minsmere. Here you can spend a day spotting some the UKs rarest birds and wildlife including the Avocet, Bittern, Otter and Red Deer.
