It is the most northern part of Alps which rises over 2.000 meters of altitude. There are basically no lifts in the Hochschwab, so you can enjoy it in its natural state. In September the weather is quite stable (although quite windy and freezing in the morning in the top parts) and only few tourists which get such rewarding views for the pain of hiking it by own feet. Hilly plateau with green to yellow grass and limestone walls and peaks. Also on the right there is the green meadow of Sonnschienalm (literally the meadow of sunrays) which is placed on the lower plateau of 1.500 m altitude. Plenty of scrub pines everywhere. In September you can count on quite stable weather and less tourists, party due to the end of season and partly due to the relative remoteness of the area (no lifts and only few small villages).
