Ambergris Caye Beach Vacations

Portofino is a beautiful, quaint little resort. We have stayed in their small cabanas a number of times. They are rustic and simple. The resort grounds include a lovely salt water pool, a dock, a small reception area, a small outdoor bar with a beautiful patio under large sea grape trees as well as a restaurant above the reception area that overlooks the gorgeous sea and barrier reef. Overall, it is simply beautiful and relaxing. The frontline staff are phenomenal, truly great and caring human beings. They really make the stay very special. This July 2026 stay, however, we experienced a few disappointments in comparison to past stays. The restaurant food was not as good overall as we have experienced in the past. Most disappointing in respect to the amenities was the removal of the water taxi as an option for going into San Pedro or to other resorts. We were truly saddened not to have that available given how far Portofino is from the city. The biggest challenge, though, was the lack of available beach front and ocean water. While not a reflection on the resort itself, the large amount of seagassum was disgusting and the smell sickening. Sadly, it extended out past the end of the dock.

This was our second stay with Belizean Coves Estate, and it won't be our last. Service was (as always) impeccable along with the amenities. My grandchildren were in the pool and the staff (without asking) got floaties out for them to use. That's the kind of service you receive here.

Amazing hospitality. No BS, everyone at the resort were so friendly, helpful and always willing to chat and ask about your day. Would stay here again in a heart beat.

The staff was magnificent the rooms was immaculate the property was very very well kept we enjoyed the pool area and the people that vacation there as well was very very nice I give her 10 out of 10

Loved the honeymoon casita! The pools are outstanding and the Cocoblanco Restaurant is fabulous. The staff is very warm and friendly. If this sounds good to you, this resort is it. Quiet and gorgeous. Elegant and relaxing.

The only thing I believe was cheaping out was having to pay for transportation from the ferry to the resort. This should be included. You are paying a premium to stay. Hotels pick you up at the airport. Also, the senior that lives on the top floor of the North seaside building is a nasty person. She owns the condo and is not a nice person to other guests.
