Average rooms could do with a little refresh

Good location in the centre of Edinburgh. The room we stopped in was looking a little past it's best, breakfast was good with a good choice

Location was perfect

Hotel is in a good location, I found some of the reception staff rude! The lady who worked on The Grill reception however was welcoming and couldn't of been more helpful!

Trevligt något äldre hotell nära till det mesta

Bra läge. God frukost. Hårda sängar annars stort och bra rum. Saknar tyvärr värdefack på rummet (finns i receptionen) Mycket vänlig och hjälpsam personal.

Central location. Close to Waverly Station.

Posted Jul 22, 2015
Pros: Central location between old town Edinburgh and new town. Easy walk to Edinburgh Waverly train station.
Cons: Bed had only one sheet-on the mattress. No second sheet to sleep under. Bathroom had NO washrags. Had to bathe with a hand towel. Things you expect!
Location: Easy walking distance to both old and new town Edinburgh and Waverly Station. Old town was the closest and very enjoyable. Lots of shops/restaurants.
Lacked some of the basics you would expect for the price. Bed had only one sheet which covered the mattress. No second sheet to sleep under. Bathroom had NO washrags, you had to bathe with a hand towel. We were on the top floor on the front of the hotel and still heard a lot of street noise. Breakfast food was passable at best. Go out the back of the hotel and take the short walk up to The Royal Mile. Directly across the street Cafe Keno has a better breakfast for a lower price.

good staff let down by low cost B&B bedrooms

Posted Jul 18, 2015
Pros: The staff on reception were very good
Location: Right next to the train station which you can clearly hear from 4.30am onwards.
Great staff let down by very poor rooms which were very dated and in need of a refurbishment. I wouldn't go back.

With a few improvements it could have been perfect

Posted Jul 8, 2015
Pros: The room was big enough for the three of us and was clean, with nice decor. Close to the train station and city centre. Breakfast was excellent.
Cons: Install air conditioning and shower screens. Some of the staff need to work on their customer service skills.
Location: Close to the city centre and train station. Edinburgh has lots of things to do.
The receptionist who checked us in was not very friendly, but the man who we spoke to when checking out was really friendly and helpful. We had the option of leaving our luggage there to collect later - which was useful. We needed to have the windows open because it was hot. There was a lot of noise from outside, which I appreciate is not the fault of the hotel. However, if there had been air conditioning, we could have had the option of closing the windows at night and therefore getting a better sleep. The extractor fan in the bathroom (if there was supposed to be one) did not work. The shower curtain clings to you when you are showering, so showering is not a pleasant experience - not sure if this would have been remedied if there had been a working extractor fan. I think it would be better to have shower screens rather than curtains. There was not enough milk in the room for drinks for three of us. I asked for some more from one of the housekeepers who was on the corridor - she very gave me only four more (there were three of us in the room) - so they did not go very far. Her manner was very surly, so I didn't dare ask for more!! Overall, I think the price was expensive for what we got - I expected it to be really luxurious and excellent service for the price we paid. Comfort and service were average - I think we would have got the same in a Premier Inn. I guess you pay for the location though!

Edinburgh at its best

Posted Jun 29, 2015
Pros: Convenient to railway station and a two minute walk to royal mile where the castle is located.
Cons: Bathrooms could perhaps be updated but they were always kept clean
Location: The bus tours are great but check where they go. Only one goes to the royal yacht Britannia. Botanic gardens are worth a visit.
Friendly staff and excellent food. Lots of restaurants in the vicinity and close to main shopping areas.
