“Hotel- nice, room-fair”

Nice hotel, friendly, capable service. Restaurant prices way too high. Five-star prices for a three-star restaurant. Rooms had bare necessities but clean. Close to the Grand Canyon.

Area recommendations
Yes. On main street and close to Grand Canyon.

“Can't wait for another Grand Canyon Adventure”

This hotel is excellent value if you can't get a reservation inside the park. It's just a few miniutes from the park entrance. Ask for a room facing the pines. The rooms are freshly furnished and very comfortable and well coordinated. I'm generally a design snob, but even I could handle faux 'Western' themed decor. Staff were very pleasant and allowed us early check in, and offered to help when my car battery froze from the cold. Restaurant food is so-so, but the nightly entertainment makes it worth while. Check out the Yippee Yi Oh restaurant up the street.

“Can't Wait to go Back”

I would good back to the Grand Hotel as the hotel was quite nice, rooms were clean and breakfast buffet was very good.

Area recommendations
I would recommend the Grand Canyon area and the hotel to others. Would also recommend Sedona area. The canyon is breathtaking!!!
When to go
I think the best time to go is October/November. Not as crowded as the spring/summer timeframe.

“Enjoyed our stay!”

The Grand Hotel was very nice and we enjoyed staying there. We had 3 rooms and all agreed that on our vacation travels, the Grand had the most comfortable beds and was indeed our favorite hotel!! Very convenient to the Grand Canyon South Rim as well.

“the place to be in the grand canyon”

the location of the hotel is absolutely wonderful. the kids really enjoyed the pool during our down time. the restaurant was very nice and the gift shop was more reasonable than others. they have a consierge on sight who is extremely helpful. the beds were very comfortable and the cleaning service was wonderful.

When to go
the weather is absolutely wonderful in October. It was in the 70's the whole time. It averages over a hundred in the summer months.

“Was no a show-stopper of a stay, but it served it's purpose.”

We were visiting South Rim and we decided to get a room at the Grand. We were allowed to check in early as we arrived sooner than we thought we would so that was good. We were greeted by the front desk attendant who wished me a happy birthday and us a happy anniversary. She then stated she was going to send some champagne up to the room for us to celebrate which never happened. This did not affect us one way or another but it would have been nice if it had actually been done since it was brought up by the staff member. The room was a good size but seemed to lack basic amenities you find in every hotel room which again, we pack well so it was not a huge issue. It was close to the Grand Canyon entrance and was easy to find. Breakfast was so-so and the hotel really did not have a lot ot offer outside of a place to sleep. Overall it was an ok stay but for $100 less in Vegas we got a jacuzzi suite that was 800sf.

Area recommendations
Go to Grand Canyon National Park! Enough said.
Comment from the hotel's management
We appreciate your feedback. The Grand Hotel has recently completed some renovations which include, a new bedding package, public areas, artwork, restaurant, and bar. We have received great reviews from these upgrades. For special occasions we send a complimentary amenity such as wine or champagne paired with a fruit and cheese platter. I will follow up with my team on the issue mentioned in this review

“Pleasant Surprise”

1st time to the Grand Canyon & fairly last minute trip too. Since all lodges were booked and didn't want to stay in a "chain" hotel, took a chance on this hotel. Was really pleasantly surprised. The Grand was large with a certain lodge-like charm consistent with the area. It was clean, comfortable & offered a decent list of amenities. The staff was extremely courteous, friendly & helpful esp the young concierge & the restaurant manager. The location was great too; only about 1 mile from the Grand Canyon Nat'l Park entrance to the South Rim with a Wendy's, McDonald's & grocery store enroute to the park entrance. A few quirky things to improve on 1) wtr pressure for shower & lavatory. If this was due to wtr conservation, then understandable but definitely need to update the shower head. 2) Housekeeping did not resupply soap & shampoo daily. Ran out & had to go ask for same. . . However we were NEVER short of clean fresh fluffy towels daily in assortment of sizes. 3) the key card for the room stopped working a couple of times. . had to go get rekeyed. Long Story Short - We enjoyed our stay & would stay there again.

Area recommendations
absolutely the GRAND CANYON'S SOUTH RIM perferably in the fall especially during full moom.
When to go
Fall or Spring
Getting around
Rental Car but GREAT shuttle bus service with different routes for vantage point viewing of Grand Canyon's South Rim. The $25 per vehicle park pass is good for 7 days & a great bang for your buck.
What to pack
Layered clothing. . .cool/cold in the mornings but warms up quickly. . so you can peel as necessary
Must see
Grand Canyon's South Rim from different vantage points to include sunrises, sunsets & moon rises. Desert View Drive (had wonderful vantage points for breath taking views) which ends up @ the Watch Tower (eastern end of the South Rim), a great place to see the painted desert. Hermits Rd to the western end of the South Rim offered breathtaking views as well. Can only take the shuttle bus on this road.
Shopping
Not much shopping to speak of as the area is still pretty pristine. But there are a few gift shops.
Family-friendly activities
hiking, picnicing, picture taking & sight-seeing. . bus riding to different drop off/pick up points to view.
Other
for you brave & bold out there. . .I would definitely recommend the helicopter ride above & "into" the Canyon weather permitting. . .We went on a 1 hr Maverick helicopter ride which recorded the whole trip on DVD. . .WAY TOO COOL for words!!!

“A good alternative to being in the Park”

The Grand Hotel was convenient for access to the park. We've also stayed at the El Tovar in the park. Can't beat the El Tovar for location - but the Grand is a nicer hotel. Larger room, much better bathrooms at Grand. Though you do pay for the easy access. Rooms are way more costly than something similar that is not near the GC. You can get to the rim from the Grand in 15 minutes - no problem. Decor is appropriate for the area, though hallways are looking a little worn. Room was clean. Service was prompt and friendly when we needed to replace feather duvet with hypoallergenic version. Would love to have had a refrigerator in the room. They had a coffee maker in room and free coffee in lobby - but free coffee was put away as soon as the restaurant opened at 7:00. Should leave that out until 9:00m. Did not try the restaurant.

Area recommendations
It's the Grand Canyon - everywhere you go is worth it.
When to go
Early-mid October is great! You can't beat the weather - generally warm enough during the day to generally not need a jacket - cold at night for good sleeping, and not overly crowded. We were able to get parking spots everytime. You can hike down the canyon without worrying about heat exhaustion as you would in the middle of summer and instead of carrying 8 liters of water per person - you can get away with 3-4 each.

“Convenience is the main reason to stay.”

Hotel is way over priced for what it is. It is just a few miles from the entrance to the Grand Canyon and does have a resturant and bar inside. Television was bad and the food was just OK. Servicer brought out a survey and someone had prefilled in the blanks for us. According the the prefilled in survey the food and service was excellent! They try to run the gift shop and coffee shop with only one employee so get ready to wait and wait and wait before you buy.

Comment from the hotel's management
We appreciate all feedback and use this as opportunity to train and recognize our team. The Grand Hotel at the Grand Canyon recently installed flat screen TV's in all of our rooms. We also have a new TV System that is being installed with more options and will be live during the first week of December. We take all of feedback seriously and take the necessary steps to improve our overall guest experience
