Perfect for pre-conference workshops

I attended a two-day pre-conference workshop where food was supplied by hotel staff. The breakfast and lunch provided was feast for a king! Food was tasty, of great variety, and plentiful. Wait staff was wonderful. Easy access by light rail. Convention center across street.

Light rail and public transportation systems are great. You shouldn’t need a rental car. Parking in downtown area expensive.

Great Location, clean, and nice staff

I went as a one night stop and it was much nicer than i expected.. The room was larger and clean, **The Location is right next to the rail stops for downtown or out to the airport!!!! really nice. There also is a mall about 2 block away, and food right next door. I would strongly recommend staying here when you make a trip to Portland.

Save your money

For a 3 night stay and the price we paid, this hotel is very old. Our room was very cramped. The air conditioner did not work so we had to open the window which had mold covering the metal frame. The bathroom had no ventilation and the lighting was poor. Continental breakfast was not free, unlike other places in the area. On our last night, our toilet tank overflowed. All in all this hotel doesn’t live up to the Red Lion’s reputation. It’s only saving grace was that the was room clean and the beds comfy.

Magnificient view of the Rose Garden

Easy access from the freeway; wonderful view of the Rose Garden from the top floor; accessible, reasonably priced food nearby.

Traveler's tip

Low cars with small tires may have trouble pulling into parking lot and parking garage.

Red Lion is hard to beat

We were quite pleased with the Red Lion Lloyd Center, especially at the special Expedia price. It is a very convenient location for shopping and MAX access downtown. The hotel has been almost completely renovated. An important exception is the doors between rooms. They are old and in poor condition so they allow a lot of sound through, even TV and moderate talking. The only other complaint we had was with the elevator. It was fine during mid-week but on Fri-Sat when the hotel was full it took forever to get to the 6th floor. The room had a refrigerator and a coffee maker. A microwave or toaster would have been nice. My wife appreciated the fine bed. Desk service was good and the restaurant did a pretty good job with breakfast. All in all, if you bring ear plugs and are prepared to be patient, you can’t do much better than the Red Lion.

Walking distance to State Building

Worked for me. Able to access internet.

Traveler's tip on dining

Handy to have dining on site, though quite pricey.

Good Location

The hotel was easy to find and easy to get around town from. There was a UFC event going on nearby at the Rose Garden. Lots of loud male voices up and down the hall. Not very sound proof. Room was clean and comfortable.

Ok in an area with a lot of hotels to choose from

Stayed for two nights. Hotel tried to add $14 / nght charge on top of Expedia fixed price (for parking). Parking charge in an area that is not exactly downtown Manhattan is ridiculous. Parking fee is waived if you have a Red Lion frequent flyer number. Review would have been more positive if the hotel front desk had been able to repair or replace tv remote. There are several hotels to choose from in the area around the Lloyd Center.

In need of renovations

This hotel is in a nice location, but it is in serious need of renovations and additional parking. The hotel is definitely showing its age. For example the window frame in my room had become separated from the wall and there was a 1/2 inch crack at the bottom of the window directly to the outside. Also, hotel parking is inadequate yet we were charged a daily fee to park when no parking was available due to hotel events.

Good value, Nice hotel

This hotel was very comfortable. The only thing that I wasn’t comfortable with was the fact that they didn’t have air conditioning in the room. I am from South Texas, and I am always hot. It got a little stuffy at times in the room. If you are going during the cooler months, you should be fine. The restaurant downstairs had a great breakfast and was reasonably priced. Try the Multnomah fritata. Nice view of the convention center from the room. Close proximity to downtown Portland. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Traveler's tip on dining

Sushi Fans- Try Masu located a mile or two from this hotel. Melt-in-your-mouth sushi is phenomenal. Best sushi in Portland for sure!

Nice Hotel, Bad Location!!!

When we first arrived we got a room on the 5th floor and the elevator was broken. It was fixed right away. The hotel in all was nice. It is very close walking distance to the lloyd shopping mall! The Max is right next to hotel. It is in kind of a scarey neighborhood (would not walk alone at night outside) For the price you pay it should be in a nicer area but its not. Its easy to find if you are coming from I-5.

Traveler's tip on dining

Dennys and Red robin and Starbucks are in walking distance.

Great Value with Minimal Shabbiness

When we stepped off the elevator, the shabbiness of the hallway in no way indicated the good condition of our room. Beds were comfortable, the room clean, and the non-functional TV remote promptly replaced. However, the room had a fan, and apparently no working air conditioner, and the room was hot. I had to open the window and move the fan to get the room cool that night so sleep was possible, but the street noise was loud in our second floor room. Breakfast was good, service excellent considering only one floor person.

Traveler's tip

No pool for summer use, but close to Lloyd Center and downtown.

Convenient value

Good location across from the Portland convention center and very near a light rail stop. Easy to use public transportation. Hotel was clean but the lobby was very basic. Nice to have a microwave and refrigerator in the room.

I’d be happy to return

The staff were very helpful when I needed city or train info. They stored my baggage while I got a few more hours of sightseeing before leaving. The staff called a taxi and helped me carry my luggage. The restaurant was fast, clean, professional staff and delicious food. The room was clean and comfortable. Across the street from the convention center and across the street from the city train system. Restaurants across the street also in at least three directions.

Traveler's tip on shopping

Pioneer Square has a beautiful 6-story shopping center connected by a skywalk to more 6-story shopping with a food court on the bottom floor. Lloyds Center Mall is large and has lots of eating places, great stores and an iceskating rink inside. These are accessible by the free fare max train. There is also a great flea market near China Town and lots of other shopping available.

Got My Rest

Hotel was convenient, right where I needed it to be. Service was better than expected, room nice, warm clean. Only issue was advertised Internet. Not available in the room. When asked I was toldthey were limited to the power of their wireless router ... then add more ... not a big issue though I was in the room to sleep not work.

Very nice place to stay

I’ve stayed here twice in the past two months while attending meetings at the Convention Center and have been very pleased. It’s catty-corner from the Convention Center and very convenient with lots of parking if you have a car. It’s just a few blocks to Lloyd Center and it’s next to the free trolley which takes you downtown. Everyone was polite and helpful and late check-out was not a problem. If you are attending anything at the Convention Center I recommend this hotel.

BEST LOCATION FOR THE ROSE GARDEN AND FOOD

THIS HOTEL WAS VERY NICE AND CLEAN. IN A GREAT LOCATION FOR THE ROSE GARDEN AND THE LOYD CENTER SHOPPING. HAVE ALREADY TOLD OTHER PEOPLE ABOUT THE HOTEL AND THAT THAT IS THE PLACE TO STAY WHEN GOING TO ANYTHING AT THE ROSE GARDEN. PLUS THERE ARE FOOD LOCATIONS ALL AROUND THE HOTEL AND A DENNYS FOR SOMETHING AFTER THE EVENT. HAVE PATIENCE WITH THE FOOD AFTER IT WAS VERY BUSY BUT GOOD FOOD. THANK YOU FOR A GREAT TIME.

Great place to stay

It’s a great place to stay if you’re going to the Convention Center or the Rose Garden. You can just walk and don’t have the hassle with the parking. The beds are very comfortable. The only problem I had with the room was the air conditioner didn’t work. There were two floor fans so that worked to keep the room cool. I would definitely stay there again.

Great location, ok sleep

Kitty corner to the convention center--can’t beat the location! The room was hot (beginning of April) and we couldn’t cool it down; opening a window didn’t help much Our room was facing the street/convention center and the everytime the MAX (tram) stopped it woke me. If noise bothers you, request a room facing away from the street.

Very pleased

As with any hotel, you can find negative, if not disturbing, reviews. The Red Lion was a pleasant surprise in most every category. Rooms were clean & comfortable, location was great & convenient to the convention center, light rail & anywhere it can take you, & the people very courteous, helpful & responsive. For me, free wireless is a must. Simple & easy to get on & reception great throughout the hotel. My friends were disgusted by the daily charges of other local hotels. We had only one glitch while there. The remote control on the TV was erratic & failed to work at all on two occasions. But each time, a technician came to the room & made adjustments until ultimately it was reliable again. We like quiet rooms & requested one. We were given the upper floor near the fitness room. It indeed was quiet except 1 evening (not late) when we could hear someone working out with weights there. The walls are probably a bit thin, but noise while sleeping was never a problem. Always dubious of odd airport shuttle arrangements, and this one was a first for me. I had read that they would reimburse your light rail fare if you took the train. We did and they did. Reception took our receipt and information and promptly dished out cash. The return trip, however, could not be reimbursed because they require the ticket as a receipt. Of course fares are only around 3-4$. I would definitely stay at the Red Lion again. One meal at in-property restaurant. Breakfast was very good. Best value around.
