Beautiful hotel.... minus some usual expected amenities.

This Sofitel is a GORGEOUS hotel. It looks luxurious... However, there are some basic amenities that you would receive at say, a Howard Johnson, that you won’t get here. (Like free high-speed internet or a refrigerator) Also- beware that room-service is EXORBITANT. I ordered a glass of milk that was advertised as $4.50 and by the time I paid for it I was charged $8.00. They tack on a delivery fee and taxes and fees............ (as if room-service isn’t pricey enough.) I would stay here again, but I might shop around for a hotel w/ free internet, a microwave, and fridge...

I highly recommend the Rainforest Cafe at Fisherman’s Wharf. The food is excellent and the service is IMPECCABLE. My quesadillas came out wrong, another one was made.........I was offered a salad in the meantime to hold me over and they still comped my meal. I was very impressed.

Nice but Loud

We stayed a few nights at the hotel and it was a very nice facility. The rooms were very nice and clean. The down fall was they hold large parties/events at night which can be very loud. We heard DJ music up until midnight one night. They did say they would move our room the next night if another function was to be held, but one of the desk agents seemed like we were just being picky.

Extra Mile

My lady and I spent our 8 year anniversary here last weekend. I sent a quick note when booking to informed them that it was a special occasion for us. All I was expecting was just a nice greeting of some sort. They really went out of their way to make our weekend special. The check in hostess was very warm, greeted and congratulated us on our occasion. They also, upgraded our room. We left for dinner and upon our return they provided us a complimentary bottle of champagne. This was all at their courtesy. I have spent time in plenty of hotels. This was by far the most generous and thoughtful gesture that I could imagine. Nothing was expected but our expectations were well exceeded. Its rare that you find customer service that pays attention to the details and really excels at the execution of true customer satisfaction. Great kudos and thanks to the San Francisco Sofitel and staff. Thank you for a memorable weekend!

A good deal! for this luxury...

The room looked much more modern in the web page and in the lobby. So I expected a bit more of this deco in the room. But the king bed was amazing!

Lacks a few standard items

Spiffy hotel, but lacks standard items like an in-room refrigerator. Has odd lighting wiring (nev er did get one of the bedside lamps to work). But parking’s free (vs. $3.95 for a bottle of Diet Coke downstairs). Feels super, though. Good bedding.

Beautiful hotel & great service! No parking fees & great location!

The lobby and surroundings are beautiful, however the rooms where we stayed haven’t been redone in years (cottage cheese ceilings, old bathroom fixtures and 80’s color schemes). They could use some renovating. The beds are very comfy, but I prefer a sheet instead of just the duvet cover in case it gets hot. The hotel will accomodate you if you request it. Great capuccinos & croissants @ the lobby for breakfast. Will go back for sure!

Great hotel

The hotel was great. It was in a buisness area so a car was a must to go around. Quality was great for the price, a hotel like that in San Francisco would have cost at least 300$ a night. My only disapointment was the snack bar/gift shop. The service was terrible and things over price ( two cups of regular coffee cost me 6.50$).

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

My advice for this hotel is to have a car at your disposal and go to the local coffee shop down the stree to get breakfast.

too starnge rooms

if you do not stay there but simply have a breakfast or lunch, the hotel is great. but if you are a hotel guest, then you will be surprised with weird rooms in very traditional american style. this is a french chain, so i would expect it to be new, laconic and mordern. the suite we have stayed had formally everything yet was ridiculous.

Refined Relaxation

Service is friendly and professional. Views of the lagoon and the simple elegance of the decor make this an ideal hotel for a relaxing getaway despite its office park setting. Charges for internet access was the only annoyance.

fairly impressed

I enjoyed the quite weekend (Saturday night stay) and the walk along the lagoon when there’s no one bothering me on Sunday morning.

Traveler's tip for business travelers

Best deal ever!

Five Star, Soft, comfy beds and sheets, spacious rooms, service with a smile, yummy food, and a surprisingly hip and happening bar with a bar tender who knows how to mix a cocktail. My experience far exceeded my expections, no doubt.

Fun, Up Beat Layover / Stay Over Hotel

We stayed at this hotel over 4th of July weekend with a last minute notice. The hotel had an upbeat atmosphere with a "European Flare" (Frency). Nice downstairs bar / lounge area, beautiful waterside views, friendly staff, convenient parking / valet service. Also very much enjoyed the fact this was a pet friendly hotel where we could have our dog for the night after a long day on the road. I would definetly recomment his hotel to anyone - but especially those traveling with pets.

Disappointed this time - better before

We have stayed in this hotel many times, and were looking forward to it again. Unfortunately they booked an event that reserved the pool during the day (very disappointing to our child), and then the same group partied way into the night. Yelling and swearing in the halls at all hours of the night is not the experience expected at a Sofitel.

Very impressed

We were on our honeymoon and had never been to San Francisco before. We happened upon this hotel on expedia and were more than thrilled with our entire experience. We will return and highly recommend this hotel.

Traveler's tip on shopping

Fisherman’s Wharf was a little bit of an adventure to get to by train and bus, but it was worth it- lots to see and do.

Chic with comfortable rooms

Nice hotel - clean and chic with good quality amenities. Excellent beddings perfect for a good night’s sleep. If possible, ask for a room with lagoon view. The hotel was very quiet, which was wonderful, perhaps because I stayed on a Saturday. The hotel staff was courteous, although the man who checked us in was a bit too stiff and unwelcoming (no smile and seemed to prefer to say as little as possible) Don’t miss out on the bakery in the lobby - great pastries and coffee! The hotel is about 15 minutes south from SFO airport, which may not be as convenient for tourists if you plan to visit San Francisco for most of your trip. However, this is a great place for business travellers going to the San Jose area.

Traveler's tip

Don’t miss out on the delicious pastries in the lobby bakery.

Decent Hotel for Redwood City Area

Very attractive hotel but somewhat worn. Rooms are nice but furnishings due for an upgrade. Great parking. Pool area and pool area services leave a lot to be desired. Try for a room with water view. Lots of weddings here so can be noisy at night if you are near the wedding parties.

Traveler's tip on dining

Hotel food is decent but somewhat overpriced. Very good restaurants throughout the area.

Redwood City’s Best Hotel

I went with my best friend to San Fran. Sofitel in REdwood City was just a 20 minute walk from the CalTrain which took us to San Francisco each morning. WE loved the hotel and service. Didn’t realize it was a French hotel, but that made it all the more fun! There was a small pool outside but it was too cold to swim in at the time we went... but definitely warm enough to lay out. Grocery store was in walking distance as well, so we didn’t even end up needing a car as we just walked everywhere or took the train or Bart system. It was a great experience and I can’t wait to go back!

Traveler's tip on local attractions

San Fran had so much to do. You have to see the Museum of Modern Art. Also, Chinatown, Union Square, Fisherman’s Wharf and Pier 39 were great. Very easy to get around without a vehicle.

Rooms dated and old

The main lobby was beauitful and modern but, the rooms were dated and warn- although the bed was comfortable the sitting area was ragged. Rooms need to be remodeled- certainly not a 4 star rating. Coffee was only in the lobby until @6:30a and the desk staff did not go out of their way to accomadate.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

We lived in the area a few years ago so, the location is definitley ideal to touring the Bay and SF Area.
