Mount Albert

Auckland

A town at dusk with a prominent church steeple, a central road, and surrounding residential houses.
A cityscape with a prominent tower, various buildings, and a beach in the background.
A cityscape at night with a prominent tower and a bridge.
A church with a pointed steeple and large arched windows.
A church with a pointed steeple, surrounded by a well-maintained garden with a maze.
Next to an imposing volcano, this district is a pleasant setting with a large shopping center, a church and a golf course, among other interesting sights.

Mount Albert is a charming suburb located below the commanding sight of its namesake volcano. Well-connected to the Auckland city center, the district is a hub of attractions, shopping options and parks. Get a sense of the local culture in the Auckland suburbs with a trip to the main sights, in view of the looming volcano.

Wander along the main street of Mount Albert, stopping at various shops and restaurants. You’ll find a great range of international cuisine just a short walk from the railway station. Browse the shops in Westfield St. Luke’s Shopping Centre, which contains a large cinema, multiple restaurants and a multitude of stores that provide ideal rainy-day options.

While still in the heart of the district, visit St Mary’s Church, appreciating its redbrick barn-like design. Bring the little ones to the neighboring Mt. Albert Aquatic Centre for its large swimming pool and wave pool. It also has a sauna, steam room and spa.

On a sunny afternoon, stroll amid the suburb’s leafy terrain and appreciate the serenity away from the city center. The volcano is a constant reminder of the area’s closeness to nature. Enjoy being outside while playing a round at the Chamberlain Park Public Golf Course, where you’ll find an exclusive clubhouse and pro shop.

Head a little farther out for Alberton, the location of the majestic 19th-century Alberton House. Browse the antiques and other charming items for sale in its Verandah Store.

Find the Mount Albert community in the southwestern outskirts of Auckland, on New Zealand’s North Island. From Aukland’s city center, drive southwest for 4 miles (6 kilometers) to get here in less than 10 minutes. You can also ride the train to the Mt. Albert station, right in the heart of the area. Explore the region for nearby districts such as New Lynn, Avondale and Point Chevalier.
