We love hosting our travelers, and you will find that our neighborhood is family-oriented and pet friendly.

The Red Cottage is equally located between downtown Black Mountain and the gates of Montreat. A 1-mile sidewalk stroll to the heart of downtown Black Mountain. The drive to Asheville is easy to access on/off I-40 and only 15 miles away!

Our charming town of Black Mountain is very pet-friendly. We will gladly send you our pet policy for your review when your initial inquiry has been received.

We offer an iMac desktop computer with secure high-speed internet along with excellent cellphone coverage. A must-have if you travel for business or work remotely!
The main bedroom and spare room are wall-mounted 40" Samsung Smart TVs; the living room has a 50" Sony Smart TV. For your indoor leisure we have premium cable channels, Roku, and a game cabinet with books for children and adults.

Suppose you are looking to reserve The Red Cottage for a bachelor/bachelorette party, family reunion, graduation celebration and the like. In that case, out of respect for our neighbors and the security of the property, we ask that you please choose another vacation rental property.

The large kitchen has stainless steel appliances and is fully equipped for all your cooking/dining needs, including essential countertop appliances and a drop-leaf dining table with a service setting for 8.

Sleeps 6 comfortably. Two bedrooms with queen-size beds; the spare room has a daybed & pull-out trundle, all with premium posturepedic mattresses. The couch also folds out into a full-size bed. All beds come with comforters, blankets, and hotel-quality sheets.

Two full bathrooms with toiletries and premium linens. If anyone in your group requires assistive devices or a highchair, please inform us so that we can better serve you.

Washer/dryer, laundry supplies and clothes hangers. Though we don't think that it's ever been used, we also have an iron & ironing board :-)

Central heat and air, updated plumbing, thermal pane windows, and a new​ eco-friendly insulated attic and basement vapor barrier with a dehumidifier.

For outdoor relaxation, a large fenced front & open back yard, Weber gas grill and picnic table seat 8.

Enjoy your favorite beverage and pass the time on our front porch; 4 adult rockers, a child-sized rocker, a 5' glider bench, a ceiling fan and a drop leaf table. For many of our guests, this is their favorite feature!

Guests will have total access to the house, and we encourage all to help themselves to anything available. Make yourselves at home!

This lovely cabin comes equipped with everything you need and more for a perfect getaway. John and Monica are fabulous hosts providing wonderful service and super communication. The location is fantastic as well. We hope to be back sometime soon.

Special Stay at The Red Cottage!

This is the most comfortable and well stocked vacation home we've stayed in! It's cozy and much thought went into details that made us feel special. The home is one level which was handy and the covered front porch was a great place to relax. We esp liked that the yard was fenced since we took our dog. We're looking forward to going back! The Little Red Cottage

We enjoyed our stay. The cottage was nice, Black Mountain was beautiful and the weather was wonderful. The cottage was well equipped with every thing we needed. It had a good location and EXCELLENT parking. Monica was very quick to respond to any problem.

Beautiful Cottage with all modern updates. Fully equipped kitchen with top of the line kitchenware. Super comfortable queen bed. Two full bathrooms. Air-conditioned. Best of all, dog friendly. Black Mountain is as delightful town: walkable, great restaurants and dog-friendly. A perfect home for an extended stay. This is our second stay and we will be back next year. Most comfortable home away from home!

In the last two years we’ve stayed at eight vrbo properties from Savannah GA to the St Lawrence in upstate NY. The Red Cottage is by far the most comfortable and welcoming! There are things you hope for - comfy beds, chairs, & couch and neat & clean conditions. Then there are the things you didn’t even know you might need - bottle of wine, dog supplies, umbrellas, & packaged toiletries you may have forgotten. Lovely front porch, nice backyard, and everything on one level. Zero stairs if you enter from parking area. The hosts are super considerate & have planned ahead so you can relax and enjoy your stay. Highly recommend!

Highly recommend

We loved this adorable home. I highly recommend staying here. I took my 80 year old Dad who was extremely ill this past year. I promised if he pulled through I’d get him up to Black Mountain. He was beyond thrilled when we got there. The owner’s attention to detail was impeccable. We didn’t want for anything. He’s talking about coming back and staying there in the spring. The entire house was well stocked and clean. The beds were comfortable and the bedding was superb! Communication with the owners was top notch. We will be back!!

Wonderful Two Weeks at the Little Red Cottage

What a cozy home in beautiful Black Mountain! Perfect location to walk to downtown or to Montreat for strolls around Lake Susan. Monica was such a wonderful and responsive host. She even came by to ensure we had everything we needed for our visit from our grandson during the stay, providing a pack & play, high chair, linens and even safety outlet covers. While she was there she noticed an issue with a broken gate from a previous guest and quickly ran to the hardware store and replaced it so our dog would have use of the lawn. I haven’t ever had such a responsive host. Thank you, Monica & Jon, for sharing your wonderful little cottage with us!

Awesome, reasonable priced rental

The Red Cottage was perfect for our family of three & our fur-baby bringing in the New Year. It felt like home away from home on this vacation. Property was very neat and clean inside/outside. Well stocked kitchen for all of our cooking needs. Both bathrooms had items on hand in case you forgot to bring some items in which was very convenient and thoughtful. There was even three TV’s in which was a plus at night in case family members wanted to watch something different. We found some great restaurants during our stay in Black Mountain, with one of our favorites being Open Oven Brunch & Bakery (awesome brunch menu). We loved that it was a dog-friendly neighborhood in which our fur-baby loved. She met many friends while on her daily strolls around the neighborhood. It was an easy 15-20 min commute to Asheville with great downtown shopping and dining. Monica & John were a pleasure to communicate with along with being great hosts! PHENOMENAL!

We stayed in July. We cannot say ENOUGH about how wonderful our host Monica was! The house is quaint and perfect- just as described. Super pet friendly. Wonderful attention to every little detail you could ever possibly need! The town is super cute- we intended to go to Asheville for a long weekend but never went- Black Mountain was great! We went to Biltmore for a day- beautiful and plenty to do. We opted not to do the super expensive behind the scenes tour. The regular self guided audio tour, a walk around the grounds, and dinner in the Village on the grounds was just perfect. Another day we explored the Linville Falls hikes. Gorgeous- would go back anytime. Trails are just fine for kids and dogs. We didn't get a chance to go to Catawba falls which were closer to the house. We just ran out of time! Favorite spots in town were the Dripolator- counter service awesome coffee and pastries, and the Veranda- great lunch spot. Waits are longer if you need an outdoor spot for your dog to dine with you, but it's a cute area to shop around while you wait and most restaurants will text you when your table is ready. Dogs are allowed in a lot (but not all) of the gift shops- even the pottery shop! It's a great long weekend trip, a perfect house, and we'll be back!! Thanks, Monica!!

Fun getaway

We enjoyed our stay in Black Mountain so much. The Red Cottage is perfectly located for a walk into town, a walk to the pool or lake or a quick drive to Asheville and beautiful local hikes. The property was very clean, the front porch was delightful, beds were comfy and the kitchen was very well equipped. Would highly recommend this wonderful property.

Reluctant to Leave!

Our stay at the Red Cottage was beyond expectations, but exactly as wonderful as Monica and John promised. There was every single comfort possible in this adorable, accessible, beautifully decorated, lovingly shared home. Every possible need was covered, down to the “Oh I forgot to bring a…OH there is one here!” All went well and the front porch with rockers capped off the quaint enjoyment of the Red Cottage. Monica and John communicated with me at every turn and gave perfect instructions. An added bonus was meeting a very sweet neighbor who made us feel right welcome!

Great Location

This cottage had everything you could need. The kitchen was very well stocked, the beds were very comfortable, the porch was wonderful. We would recommend this spot and stay again if passing through. Lake Tomahawk and Montreat are both less than 2 miles (in different directions) and great places to walk.

We are frequent guests to Black Mountain and the Red Cottage is a great find! John and Monica have been doing this for 15 years and it shows - I don’t think I’ve ever seen a more well-appointed and labeled stay. Everything was clean and comfy and we loved our stay.

True as advertised

We left the frozen North, in mid January, to make Red Cottage our home for 61 days exactly, Check in process was seamless. There was everything in the cottage, that we needed for a long stay. there was even dog treats for our small Bichon Poodle. Yard has some fall leaves, that our pet did not like, mentioned that to Monica, and she sent a contractor who cleaned up in o time. Small boutiques , in black mountains are nice place to shop and near by cafes are nice touch. Over all it was an excellent getaway for us to beat the winter Blahs.

A red gem in Black Mountain

Such an adorable cottage that has everything needed plus some extras. The front porch rockers were a treat on sunny days, the kitchen has everything you will need, the whole place is so clean and comfy, and the hosts were great on communication. Being close enough to walk to downtown was a bonus. Definitely 5 stars.
