The hotel is noble and humble being an old monastery and private boy's school. Unfortunately, I don't think it has had a refresh or renovation over the last 20 years or so. The tv, the furniture, the bathroom and the dorm fridge were all very old and dated and the fridge did not work. The food was very subpar whether it was breakfast or dinner. The highlight was the outdoor swimming pool experience. It was near 90 degrees each day and the pool was refreshing and clean. The pool area and amenities however, were not impressive. Old loungers and chairs and not nearly enough umbrellas for shade for guests. The girls waiting on guests throughout the pool area were very sweet and tried hard to make your stay great though.
The highlight of the stay was the friendly staff and the STELLAR fireworks display on the night of the Fourth of July. Not kidding when I say some of the best I've seen in my life for a private display. We sat in the grass on the golf course and were almost directly under them, up close and personal.
Overall, it was a good experience we won't forget but a tough sell to come back when there isn't an event like the Fourth to sell it with fireworks. They need to put just a little money in the rooms and pool and the food must be a higher quality than it currently is. Even kind staff cannot overcome its limitations.
