This was one of the most relaxing vacations we have ever been on. The outdoor cooking facilities are great. We bought groceries and saved a ton of money. It was like camping minus the tent. But there are plenty of restaurants if that's more your thing. The remodeled room was tastfully done and had a spacious countertop area to store your pantry goods and also a four seat eating area. We ended up eating at the picnic tables by the cooking pavilion because it was beautiful weather for most of our trip. The owners are very friendly and if you need anything, they are always there to help. The staff that cleans the rooms are also very helpful and nice. Let's talk about the pool... The owners should start a pool business on the side because that pool was perfect. The water was beautiful and clean and always the perfect temp. We spent a lot of time in the pool. Our twin boys would have spent the whole vacation in there if we didn't let them know about the beautiful beaches in the area. Lol The art gallery/gift shop attached to the property was a great place to see local artist's work. The free kayak rental was such an added value. We used them almost every day. The wind died down a little towards the end of our trip, and we were able to get out to the "Sound" and it was breathtaking. (Do not attempt if strong winds are blowing out to the sound because getting back in will not be easy) We are planning on doing two weeks next year and definitely going to bring our fishing gear.

Swell motel was nice. One of the two room's air conditioner units would sometimes shut off throughout our stay. It was able to be turned back after resetting the small breaker. Our second room had some small bugs here and there. The staff was friendly and location was good. Bikes were a bit rusty and many had flat tires. Great eateries in the area and quick walk to the beach. Nice motel for the area though.

The air conditioner did not keep the room cool. They were spiders in the room. I know the motel is very old and I should have known this. The staff was very polite and helpful

I liked that it was within walking distance from a couple restaurants and shops! The rooms were okay. My room looked newly renovated but my mom’s room was really outdated and had a weird smell. I was also charged a different price than what I was quoted on here. The pool was amazing very clean and well taken care of! But other than that the atmosphere was really welcoming and they had a live band playing on Saturday night and people cooking on the provided grills! Would stay again after renovations are completely finished!

This motel was just what we needed for our three day stay. It was very clean and looked to be recently remodeled. The facility was family friendly with 2 outdoor grilling/ entertaining areas, small play area for children, horseshoe frames, pool and a place to clean freshly caught fish among other nice touches. The only thing that I would like to see added to the room was a small chair. There were 4 nice stools to go along with a long countertop, but it would be nice to have a chair to sit on to watch tv or tie your shoes. We will definitely stay at the Swell Motel if we return to the Outer Banks.

Property owners were very friendly without being intrusive. Liked the resident cats. Liked that it was pet friendly without it being run down or smelly from the dogs staying with other guests. Would stay there again. Best part was getting clean towels every day delivered right to your room!
