"As part of my boyfriend’s 27th birthday this year, I took him to Minden for ice racing. The stay at Dominion Hotel was an absolute gem! We love local inn’s and Dominion checked all of the boxes off. Being it was so cold the weekend we went, the room was so cozy, so warm, and in such a cute part of downtown. We had a blast and even enjoyed a lowkey dinner at the pub below. We loved it and have already planned a summer trip back for fun! "

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Carnarvon?
The best area to stay in Carnarvon is right along Highway 118, which is the main thoroughfare through the community.

This central stretch of Highway 118 offers convenient access to local businesses and services. You'll find a few local eateries, general stores, and gas stations clustered along this road, making it a practical base for exploring the surrounding Muskoka and Haliburton regions. It's an excellent choice for travelers looking for a central and convenient location for day trips.

For couples or small families seeking a quiet retreat with easy access to nature, properties located slightly off Highway 118, particularly those closer to the lakes or located among the trees, are ideal.
When is the best time to go to Carnarvon?
The best time to visit Carnarvon is during the summer months, from June to August, when the weather is warm and ideal for outdoor activities.

During this period, the average daytime temperatures are comfortably in the low to mid-20s Celsius (70s Fahrenheit), making it superb for enjoying the region's lakes and forests. This is also when most local businesses and attractions are fully operational, offering a complete experience for visitors.

For travelers who enjoy water sports, hiking, and exploring nature, summer provides the best conditions. Many cottages and resorts are open, and the area truly comes alive with opportunities for swimming, boating on the nearby lakes like Gull Lake and Horseshoe Lake, and walking the numerous trails.

If you prefer a quieter experience with cooler temperatures and the beauty of autumn foliage, early to mid-fall (September to early October) is also an excellent time.
