Quirky and incredibly well designed hotel! It can’t be easy remodeling a +500 year old hotel. Location was perfect! Downtown Colchester, walkable to shops and restaurants. Modern amenities, fabulous decor, great location and incredible customer service! I really enjoyed staying in the historic hotel.

I was very pleasantly surprised by my stay at The George hotel. In my opinion it is good enough to be a 4 star hotel not a 3 as advertised. The decor, the staff and cooked breakfast was marvellous, perfect poached eggs. The staff were all friendly too. Will definitely stay there again when I am in town. Thank you 😊

Great location in centre of town with parking around the back. Be prepared for signs on approach suggesting you cannot drive down high street. It is only way in and as well as paying £12 for 24hr there is no direct access to the hotel so you have to carry bags and walk up narrow lane to get to the front. Not great with elderly or disabled guests although there is drop off bay out front. Very historic building with lots of original features including lots of steps with no sign of a lift. Booked through Expedia for reasonable price although more than some other locations near by. Room was clean but small and a little tired in bathroom. It was very warm although small fan was provided in the room. Good shower with good pressure and very hot water. Breakfast was not very good for a hotel with its reputation. Poor quality buffet items like bread and pastries. Awful coffee and very average cooked breakfast. There is so much better options a short walk way. Also dissapointing was check in at 3pm, well short of 24hrs stay for your money. Staff seemed friendly enough although did not go above and beyond. Overall I would rate it much better as a bar than a hotel. Hoped for more for what used to be a premier establishment.

The George is situated on the High Street in Colchester near the Castle and the art galleries - Firstsite and The Minories. Breakfast was excellent.
