The location is great if you’re heading into Death Valley, and the property itself has a cool, slightly old-school vibe. Rooms were clean, though definitely on the dated side — kind of like stepping into a time capsule, but at least a tidy one. Staff was friendly and the basic restaurant food was good and reasonably priced, which seems to be a common experience for guests. One downside: the steakhouse has been closed since COVID, which was disappointing. It would’ve been nice to have a more upscale dining option on-site instead of just the café. Also… let’s talk about the “local wildlife.” The little pond area is actually kind of relaxing, but the water beetles definitely make their presence known. Not exactly the spa vibes you might expect, but hey — it adds character. The casino is small, but fine for a little entertainment, and the whole place has a quiet, middle-of-nowhere charm. Just don’t expect luxury or a ton of amenities — some things (like facilities and dining options) seem limited or occasionally unavailable based on recent stays. Bottom line: A solid, no-frills stopover with a unique vibe. Not amazing, not terrible — just one of those places you remember more for the experience than the comfort." The front desk was very friendly. We could not hear the traffic which is right outside the door, great sleeping. Have 2 pots of coffee going, we had to wait both days. But we would stay here again in a heartbeat!! The VFW has great food!!"
