If you have the stamina to walk down the steps to the bottom of the tower, do it! We saw much more of the structure and the city by doing so and were the only couple who walked the entire stairs during our time there. You can opt to a lift at various stages of the stairs also, but should be attempted. It is an experience we will never regret or forget. We loved the entire experience at the Eiffel Tower.
Buy the tickets to be part of a group that meets ahead of time and allows you to skip the ticket line -- WAY worth it! We did it, and very glad we did.
See it at night. Beautiful!
