The host was very helpful and pleasant, the house was quirky very clean and a comfortable bed. There was some dodgy dealings happening when we arrived just outside on the street, but have to say no overall issues. There was a slight issue with the overhead shower head, but didn’t see the host to be able to tell him.

This definitely a different experience than your typical hotel--it's a weird old house with antique furniture and gothic turrets. Everything was clean and well maintained though, and the staff was quite friendly. Breakfast was adequate. Essentially it consisted of complimentary access to a well-stocked kitchen. The pool was not the most meticulously maintained but it was clean enough that we felt comfortable swimming, and the pool area is pleasantly shaded and private. Access in and out of the property is through a gated driveway. The parking is a little tight but ultimately it was easy to get in and out, and the location is very convenient to the museum district.

The Texas suite is delightful with a huge tub separate from the toilet and sink area. We have stayed here before and enjoyed the European ambience. The Captain’s room, where our relatives were to stay, however, had such a smell of mold, their skin promptly started itching and breaking out in a rash. They had to leave immediately to find other accommodation. So, sadly, we went, too. The staff was helpful and said they would seek mold inspection but were not able to refund our reservations.

My interaction with the owner of this hotel was not good. I received a message the morning of my stay that my card wasn't working so I uploaded it all again. I received a call an hour before check-in that it still wasn't working even though that card had been working just fine. I called to ask about early check-in but was told no staff would be on-site until later which they sent me a message about. I never received any such message. When I arrived, he went on a bit of a tirade about how awful Expedia is and I shouldn't use it, etc. He then said he could just make me a new booking for the night if I gave him a card. I gave him the exact same card that allegedly hadn't been working earlier and it went through with no problems. He told us the other couple staying that night booked through Expedia had the same issue. We raised our voices with each other a bit and I should've just left then but we had reservations and not a lot of time. This location is not in a great part of town. The owner was very insistent about how the gate works but I never saw the gate closed. Even when we came back late after a concert, the gate was still open. Part of the shower was broken but it was mostly fine. Breakfast is just some available boxed, pre-packaged, and canned goods. I will never stay here again and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
