Getting around Kansas City

You’ll get the most out of your time in Kansas City by renting a car and exploring at your own pace. The city is spread out, so you’ll struggle to walk everywhere, but there’s ample free parking and not too much traffic. If you’re staying downtown, take a ride on the Kansas City Streetcar, which is free to ride and connects the River Market and Union Station. Local buses also serve the city center. Visit the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority website.Browse Kansas City rental cars.

Best time to visit

If you struggle with hot, humid weather, it’s best to avoid Kansas City during the summer, when temperatures often get into the 90s F (mid 30s C) and days can be muggy. Come during fall and you’ll find pleasantly warm days and cool nights, and a lively schedule of festivals like the American Royal. Spring is similarly pleasant, while winter can get a little chilly, though it’s the cheapest time of year.

This is my hometown, so of course, I love KC! The only downfall of the Fontaine was the view of the plaza lights. I feel like we would have been able to see the plaza better from a different location, but the area is great and the hotel is beautiful!
