8.8/10 Excellent! (1,006 reviews)
Likes; historic charm, outstanding staff, good restaurant with limited menu but really good quality food , nice pool. What needs work (a lot); ludicrously overpriced drinks and snacks in bar and at pool (this is Excelsior Springs, not Maui), room cleanliness was not great (e.g. soap scum on shower door) and rooms were terribly outdated with shop worn fixtures, noisy AC, sloppily painted woodwork etc. Old charm okay, but not maintaining a restoration is disappointing. Tiny, noisy room with king bed - I realize the hotel was rebuilt early 20th century, but suite our friends had only way to go and that's about same size as 2-star regular room. The grounds have potential, but once past the nice gazebo (for weddings/meetings?), there's lots of un-maintained ground; dilapidated fire pit, un-maintained bocci ball pit, overgrown garden etc. Looks like no one cares. Might consider adding Tennis/Pickleball court but don't bother unless you plan to maintain. Glad I visited once, but won't be back until they renovate.
