"The dormitory is beautiful and probably the best I've ever been in. Had a Scandinavian feel to it as spacious and clean. Bathroom also spacious. However mostly male staff work here and they just walk into the all female dorms. One knock and they come in. Also when being cleaned through the day the doors are left open so rooms fill with mosquitos. You try and explain this and they can't understand English. Also no curtains for each bed so no privacy. "Staff were great. Restaurant had decent food including free breakfast. Location is excellent for Chinese market and water ferry, just a 1 minute walk. Other sites- 40 minute walk to synagogue and next to it is the Dutch palace. 25 minute walk for popular handwashing laundry- Dhobi Khana. Top bunk in the dorm room was a little too high for me, but slept well. Restaurant did not sell alcohol which is a shame, the hostel has a nice chilled vibe. "

"Great property, huge rooms with a separate sitting area. Balcony with great valley views. Food and beverage service is dirty and unhygienic. Sugar is dirty, lying open under the service desk at the canteen. No glass ware in the rooms for water etc. were provided paper cups, how un-ecofriendly. Even if you want to have any drink it’s the paper cups. They are going through 100’s of paper cups each day/ how easy to provide glassware in rooms. The room had dust and cobwebs. "If I could give more than 5 stars, I absolutely would! This is by far the best hotel I’ve ever stayed in. Every single member of the staff went above and beyond to make our stay perfect. Nothing was ever too much trouble—they were always smiling, kind, and happy to help with anything we needed. The restaurant staff were exceptional, providing outstanding service and making every meal a wonderful experience. The housekeeping team were incredible, keeping our room spotless every day and making sure we had fresh towels, toiletries, toothbrushes, combs, and everything else we could possibly need. The hotel itself is absolutely beautiful, but it’s the amazing people who truly make this place unforgettable. Their genuine care, attention to detail, and outstanding hospitality made us feel so welcome from the moment we arrived. We can’t recommend this hotel highly enough. It has set a new standard for excellence, and we would happily return again and again. Thank you to the entire team for making our stay so special!"

Taj Wayanad Resort & Spa, Kerala

"The Taj in Wayanad is probably the best resort we’ve stayed at in Kerala. It’s a great location on the Banasura Lake, and serves as a good home base for other locations in the district, including waterfalls and wildlife reserves. The food was spectacular, especially the buffet in the mornings. The traditional Kerala dishes like appam and dosa at the live counter never disappointed. The live flutist who always played added a fantastic ambience. The bar on the third floor has the most fantastic views and really good cocktails. Try their version of an espresso martini. The views of the sunset from their balcony were a highlight (see photo). The amenities like the infinity pool and the gym looked at beautiful views of the lake and we used both quite a bit. We didn’t try the spa because we just came from another location where we did. The price tag seemed a bit steep even by non-Indian standards. The best part of our stay was the wonderful service and hospitality. Special shout out to the F&B manager Shinoy and the pool manager, Harikrishnan. They made our stay really memorable. It always makes us think that the service at the Taj is better than western counterparts like The Four Seasons. We definitely recommend this location and would stay here again in a heartbeat."
