Taj Lake Palace
The stunning Taj Lake Palace floats elegantly in the heart of Lake Pichola. This luxury 18th-century hotel and royal palace resembles a jeweled lotus flower blossoming from a murky pond. Marvel at this architectural masterpiece from Udaipur’s lakeshore and rooftops. Treat yourself to a night of romance and sumptuousness and dine on delicious Rajasthani cuisine.
Maharana Jagat Singh II built the Taj Lake Palace in the 1740s as a summer residence for Rajasthan’s royalty. Throughout its years the palace has been used as a filming location for national and international movies. One of the most notable is the 1983 James Bond movie Octopussy, starring Roger Moore.
Access to the palace itself is for guests only but you can appreciate its beauty from the shores of Lake Pichola as a casual tourist. Gaze in awe at the marble façade, graceful arcades, balconies and pavilions. Wake up early to watch a spectacular sunrise, when the sun rises from behind the city and casts a magical light over the palace and lake.
Gangaur Ghat and Hanuman Ghat offer great views of the palace, as do the terraces of Udaipur’s many rooftop restaurants. Go to the jetty located a short walk from Udaipur’s City Palace to watch as guests travel between the lake and hotel on a traditional Gangaur boat. Alternatively, join a boat cruise for the chance to get a closer view of the hotel with great photo opportunities.
Experience a night of opulence by staying in one of the hotel’s more than 80 lavishly decorated rooms and suites. Enjoy unsurpassed lake views and relax within the soothing confines of picturesque courtyards and gardens with flowers and lily ponds. Sample tasty Rajasthani food in one of four restaurants or enjoy a meal designed specifically for your tastes by a private chef.
