It was 20 degrees outside and the room was very cold. When we asked for help, the staff implied that we broke the heater by simply trying to turn it on. Said to give it some time because I pushed too many buttons (on, high, heat were pushed). When we asked to be transferred to another room, staff indicated the room we were in was the best one they had. We were moved to an adjacent identical room. The doors were very difficult to open (had to use my shoulder to push it open after unlocking. No coffee maker in room, ice machine out of order (had been for some time apparently). We had to walk to a nearby gas station and purchase ice. Rooms are badly in need of upgrading and the exterior is in need of serious repair. Although, the beds were comfortable, room "clean" and no sign of bugs. There wasn't anything WRONG, there just weren't any frills -- just very basic necessities. No pool, no breakfast, no coffee. the room had a refrigerator and tiny microwave. The shower took a while to get hot, but did eventually get hot. The only amenities provided was a bar of soap, and it was a very tiny one. The king-size bed was firm, and the room had a foldout couch/bed, which we did not need. The room was in okay condition (it WAS clean) but it was obvious it had not been updated in many years. The AC DID work. The motel is located in a tiny town off the highway, and off the main street in the town we were visiting, so it felt secure enough. But you need to get there earlier than 11 PM like we did. They are locked up tight, and it was obvious the hostess was not expecting me even though I had reservations. I had to ring her bell 3 times to get her to the door. She could not find the reservation and had to make a phone call and get another person in there to find it. Eventually my name came up on her computer and we got a room. Oh, yeah. The ice machine is IN the office -- you need to ask the front desk person to get ice for you! When we checked out the next morning at 9 AM, it was obvious that the front desk person was still asleep, and she did not offer me a copy of my receipt, just took my key-card. I'd rate it as "Average" even though nothing was bad.
