Visit the Long Beach Museum of Art for an exquisite complex showcasing a great range of modern, decorative and contemporary works. It also has a stylish restaurant that overlooks the beach and the Pacific Ocean. Fill out a form online to schedule a tour and get a comprehensive understanding of the exhibits.

Make your way through the museum’s permanent displays, including the impressive ceramics section. It features a collection of English Staffordshire earthenware models dating from the 17th to the 19th century. Study sculptures, pieces of furniture and paintings by early 20th-century European modernists. Various temporary displays have covered such topics as locally made designs, prominent female artists from California and high school contributions.

Attend a family workshop and peruse the exhibits of art made by kids. Enjoy a meal at Claire’s at the Museum, a restaurant that provides stunning views of the water. Take your seat within the Historic Anderson House or relax beside the Structure and Flow water sculpture on the outdoor terrace. Santa Catalina Island is visible in the distance.

There is a fee to enter the museum. Ask for lower prices for students and seniors. Admission is half-price on Fridays and free from late afternoon into the evening on Thursdays. Children and museum members get free access to the site, which opens Thursday through Sunday from late morning until late afternoon.

The Long Beach Museum of Art is located between Alamitos Beach and Long Beach City Beach. Ride a bus from the Downtown Long Beach district to get here in about 20 minutes or walk east from the 1st Street metro stop for 1.5 miles (2.4 kilometers). You can also drive and leave your vehicle in the museum’s free parking lot. Travel around the area to visit other nearby attractions such as the JAAN-2 Gun Battery historical marker, Bixby Park and the Lone Sailor Memorial.
