"I found the hotel was very handy with the 24 hour desk especially as flight was delayed and missed the last train to Lucca and had to get a taxi. Staff was friendly and the rooms were clean and airy. Would highly recommend"

Short walk to walled city, safe neighborhood but most of all fantastic staff. I have never seen a group of people that are so kind, helpful and willing to do anything for their customers. We had an incident that required an ambulance in the very early hours of the morning. The night desk shift manager took such good care of us, calling ambulance, explaining to us in English what was going to happen. The hotel even sent an English speaking employee to the hospital via bike to check on us and...

This is not a picture-postcard villa with glorious views in the heart of town. It's a super-clean, well-managed, airy, Best Western with free parking, helpful staff, good restaurant, free internet, and fine breakfast, 10 minutes by car from Lucca and a good jumping-off base for driving to other sites in the area. Good value for the money.

This property is without a doubt among your top listings. The location is delightful and 15 mins. away from Lucca city center. In other words, have fun in the main city but relax and fully enjoy this pearl in the outskirts of the city.
The room was clean and comfortable to my satisfaction. The owner and his wife are professional and kind above all standards (they also booked for me a late-night dinner in the best restaurant of the area).

The La Monastica resort was a wonderful place with a staff who were exceptionally welcoming, pleasant and helpful. The room was nice and the bed was very comfortable. The location and grounds were beautiful with some modern influences in decor but really maintaining the overall old world charm and aesthetic of the monastery. We really enjoyed time in the bar playing cards and drinking some great cocktails.

Just had 24 hours to spend in Lucca. It was a great stay, the staff was very helpful from the moment we arrived. Franco, who took us to our room doubles as the hotel bartender at night. We enjoyed his company while we had a pre and post dinner aperitif. The hotel was perfectly located, easy access off the A11, shopping starts as you make a right out of the front door. The room was bigger than we expected, bed was very comfortable. Breakfast the next morning was wonderful. Had a delicious and...

The hotel is located very near the autostrade and outside the walled city. Access is easy and direct. Staff were multi lingual and friendly. English was not a problem. Parking is free. Breakfast is served as a buffet and you do need to notify if you intend to partake. It is 13euros. There is a good variety, but it is the same every day. There is an espresso/coffee machine. Nothing available to order.
Amenities. There aren’t any (like fitness room or pool). There are meeting rooms up from the...

The staff couldn’t have been kinder or more helpful. The property is so unique and we loved our loft room that had plenty of space for our family of 5. Highly recommend taking the bikes they have available to ride around the city. One of our trip highlights!

The parking is good. The location of just outside the wall at Porta Elisa is convenient. The man at reception made our dinner reservation at Gigi and it was great.

Accommodations are lovely, comfortable, elegant, and quiet.
Located about 1/2 mile outside walled city that enters directly into the west gate. Easy flat walk passing pastry, pizza, and gelato shops along the way. The rooms are exquisitely decorated with modern amenities among antique furniture. Very modern bathroom fixtures and shower. The morning dining includes cookies, croissants, cakes, cereals, cheeses, meats and yogurts with eggs made on request. We enjoyed the outdoor terrace for...

The hotel is charming, intimate, and very well staffed. From a lovely, abundant breakfast spread with friendly and efficient staff to a roster of well-informed, helpful and friendly front desk/check-in staff, you are pleasantly surprised at every turn. At check in, upon seeing an elderly person with a cane in the party, we were immediately offered a room with easy access from the lift -- very thoughtful. The best area to stay in Matraia is typically within a villa or agriturismo located in the rolling hills surrounding the village center.
Matraia itself is a small, picturesque Tuscan village, characterized by its historic church and a few local shops. The real appeal lies just outside the village, where vineyards and olive groves stretch across the landscape. Accommodations here often come with expansive views of the surrounding countryside and the distant city of Lucca.
For couples seeking a tranquil and scenic retreat, staying in a private villa or a high-quality agriturismo is an excellent choice. These properties often feature private pools, outdoor dining areas, and gardens, providing a peaceful escape. They are ideal for enjoying the regional cuisine and wines, and for exploring the nearby historic towns.
Families will also find these larger properties well-suited to their needs. Many villas offer multiple bedrooms, fully equipped kitchens, and ample outdoor space for children to play.
When is the best time to go to Matraia?
The best time to visit Matraia, Tuscany, is during the shoulder seasons of late spring (April to early June) or early autumn (September to October).
These periods offer pleasant weather, with warm days ideal for exploring the Tuscan countryside without the intense heat and larger crowds of mid-summer. You'll find the vineyards and olive groves at their most picturesque, whether budding with new growth or heavy with ripe fruit. The temperatures are comfortable for outdoor activities like walking or cycling.
For couples seeking a romantic getaway, these times are perfect. You can enjoy al fresco dining at local trattorias, participate in wine tastings at nearby vineyards, and take scenic drives through the rolling hills. The calmer pace allows for a more intimate experience of Tuscan life.
Travelers looking for a relaxed yet engaging experience will appreciate the balance these seasons provide.
