Mar-A-Lago ("mahr-ah-lahgo")

Built in 1924-1927 by Marjorie Merriweather Post and designed by Joseph Urban. When Post died in 1973 she willed the 17-acre estate to the U.S. Government as a retreat for Presidents and visiting foreign dignitaries.

The Mar-A- Lago Club is currently a private club owned by Donald Trump. Trump paid $ 10 million for the estate in 1985. After acquiring the property in 1985, He had the property extensively renovated, with 58 bedrooms, 33 bathrooms, 12 fireplaces ( because it gets so cold in Florida ), and three bomb shelters,, because....?. The estate also has five clay and one grass tennis court with a waterfront pool and a 20,000-square-foot ballroom. The name Mar-A-Lago is Spanish for "Sea to Lake".

On April 18, 2012, the AIA's Florida Chapter ranked Mar-A-Lago fifth on its list of Florida Architecture: 100 Years.

"This was a comfortable, clean, and well-maintained place to stay. The location is perfect—just a short walk to the beach and surrounded by many shops and restaurants along Atlantic Avenue. The property manager was excellent, reaching out before our stay and responding almost immediately when we had a question. The hospitality, convenience, and overall experience make this a place we’d definitely stay again!"

"Property is really well maintained. Rooms are spacious and comfortable. Tiffany from the front desk was wonderful with our accomodations, even when unfortunately we had to change our room due someone tampering with the smoke detector to smoke in the room. I recommend this hotel!"
