My husband and I recently stayed at 1 Hotel Toronto for a one-night getaway from our kids, and while the hotel itself is beautiful and very clean, our overall experience was disappointing.
I booked the Skyline View Suite based on the photos advertised. Unfortunately, the room we received did not match the photos. It was missing features shown online, including the desk, and the "skyline view" was quite misleading. Only about a quarter of the view actually overlooked the skyline, while the rest looked out onto the rooftops of older buildings. Considering the premium price of the suite, this was disappointing.
The biggest letdown, however, was the rooftop pool experience. One of the main reasons we chose this hotel was to relax by the pool and enjoy a day in the sun. When we went up to the rooftop, there were empty lounge chairs available, but we were told we couldn't use them because they were reserved for guests on a waiting list. We were actually asked to get up from the chairs and told we could "try again tomorrow morning." Since we were only staying for one night, that wasn't a realistic option and it completely changed the experience we had hoped for.
I want to mention that the hotel was exceptionally clean, and the property itself is beautiful. However, between the misleading room photos and the inability to enjoy one of the hotel's main amenities despite being a paying guest, our stay didn't feel like the relaxing getaway we had planned.
