We loved how old the inn was and how it was restored. Our room was so spacious and clean. We loved this place and would highly recommend!!! One thing, steep stairs but definitely worth it. Breakfast was good and staff was great. We loved it
Nice clean hotel. Don’t believe those saying area is unsafe. No people were even out and about except for daily business. Parking is tight, you might be referred to a lot a very short walk away. Hotel is over 120 years old, they have maintained the decor of the period, and in some spots it needs some attention, but it would not detract from the stay. We had a room on the side and it was quiet and comfortable.
It's a historic hotel of years past. But a great find for the money. Personally we really liked it. Small and quaint. Make sure you get a room with a private if you need one. Stairs are steep. Breakfast is a nice touch. Location excellent.
The Hotel was very nice. It's very old so some of stair creek. But the rooms were very clean and fairly good size for a very hotel. The staff was very nice and were very happy to help with directions to get around town. There were only a few restaurants near there within walking range. But the Thai Restaurant next door is one of the best that I've ever been too. The location is very good too as it doesn't take long to the downtown or promenade sections.
Quirky old 3 story hotel 20-30 min walk from the central Portland area with much pricier hotels, museum, waterfront, etc. All basics fine, aircon works well & quietly, free parking/cold breakfast/coffee. Be aware: 1) some rooms shared bath: 2) most rooms up 1-3 steep narrow staircases; no elevator.
Clean and friendly. Would not be a place for people who have trouble with stairs. The location seemed removed from waterfront activities but Portland is quite small and walkable. We would return.
Suggestion: With the shared bathroom, an exhaust fan and or air fresheners would go a long way.
Room was adequate for one overnight. I understood the room size requirements, but the furniture made the space feel cramped. I was also aware there was no elevator, but that being said, theres not really a space between floors for you to stop and catch your breath on. Also it had a mild musty smell. Breakfast was bare bones but was included so thats fine. Quick 10 minutes from the airport which was nice.
It’s really an interesting quirky hotel in an incredibly convenient location. It’s old and the rooms are small. There’s no elevator and the stairs are quite steep. Bathroom is down the hall. The bathroom situation was fine once I worked out that the door sticks. No issues using it or having to wait. Parking lot is small but they do have an overflow lot a block away. It was a fun stay.
This would not be the place for everyone. No elevators, window unit ac,tight quarters. But the ease, cleanliness and very attentive staff more than make up for anything!!! Right across the street from Maine Med center! A perfect stay!
Mediocre, but suitable for what we needed. Staff was lovely. Helpful and friendly. Rooms were big and reasonably clean. It was easy to keep the noise and light out. Tastefully furnished. Comfy bed. The computerized check-in process was very inefficient and confusing. The place was a bit worn around the edges. I was really looking forward to the jacuzzi tub but only 2 of the 6~ jets worked and tub itself, although clean, looked a little grungy. Location was on a main street and the walk to the waterfront was something I would not have done after dark. I don’t think it was worth $357/night, but it was less expensive than other properties closer to the water.
loved the charm of the old building and the furnishings. Breakfast was very good with many options considering the limited space. glad we had a room on the 1st floor as it looked like it would have been hard for us at our age (72) to climb the stairs with luggage. parking was a challenge but your solution with using a nearby lot was great.
Staff was always genuinely helpful and smiling. Loved the location as we like walking through town to get to places and the parking was easy and had great access to the highway for day trips. Looking forward to future stays.
The inn itself was beautifully kept. The water pressure was great. There was plenty of hot water except very early in the morning (before 6am). I didn’t walk in the area but if I had too, I wouldn’t feel comfortable in the evening. There was parking behind the hotel and I was lucky to get a spot both nights that I was there otherwise you would have to park in their other lot somewhere around the corner. They had lemon water, fruit, cookies, tea and coffee out all the time. The included breakfast was just an easy grab a toasted bagel and go. Nothing special but it was a nice offer. The beds were soft, the AC worked well and our room was very large. Our room was on the second floor, no elevator and extremely steep steps, but staff was always available to help with bags or luggage. Overall, a very nice stay and less expensive than closer to town.
I really appreciate the old style of the room (i.e. classic radiator, older dresser). Bed was very comfortable. Really appreciate the sink in the room for brushing teeth, shaving, etc…with sharing a bathroom.
The staff was very friendly and the hotel itself is well kept however I booked a room with a shared bathroom and the bathroom was locked the entire time (with a sign that said “in use” and I wasn’t able to use it at all.
We stayed in a room with a bathroom in it as we preferred that over a shared bathroom. The room was right off the lobby but it was not noisy at all. The room was spacious with a small table and 2 chairs. The bed and pillows were very comfortable. The shower had great water pressure but it did drip when not in use. The continental breakfast was pretty standard. Parking at the Inn was limited but we had use of another lot the next street over. The location was perfect as we were going to a Sea Dogs game and it was only a 5 minute walk from the Inn. Overall we had a good stay and would come back.
