Old fashioned motel with spacious rooms - updated fully to today's standards. Good location on cross town public transport lines. Good value compared to downtown San Francisco hotels.
Convenient location, good parking, room was nice, clean and comfortable. The room fronted on Lombard Street so it was pretty noisy till the bars closed.
The hotel and our room were very clean and well maintained. The room was basic, even a bit larger than I had anticipated. The window opened which I loved to get some fresh air. We ended up loving the Wharf area, and this hotel was about a 30 minute walk there, or there is a bus stop right outside that will bring you there. Overall, we loved our time here.
Hotel room as fine. Hotel had signs posted prohibiting bicycles in room, staff strongly recommended removing all valuables from vehicles, and staff recommended bikes be stored at an nonsecure bike rack. This is a deal breaker for people traveling with a bike.
We really enjoyed our stay at Chelsea Inn! The location could not have been better. We had multiple bus stops within a block. There were plenty of great restaurants and a grocery close by. The room was nice and comfortable, and other than the noise from the street on the weekend, it was fairly quiet.
Good sized rooms. Excellent location. Muni stop and Big Bus tour stops directly in front of the hotel. Many restaurants, corner stores, bars, and clubs nearby. Easy access to nearly any part of the city. Provided toiletries. Hot water for long showers never ran out. Housekeeping services upon request. Even though it is an active hub of the city, it was relatively quiet and none of us had trouble sleeeping. Could see a glimpse of the Golden Gate Bridge from our window. Would definitely recommend to stay here.
Clean and well maintained. Nothing too fancy. No frills. But free parking? In San Francisco? A rare gem on that front. This place is a penny pinchers paradise in a great with many bars and restaurants- easily stumbling distance away
I stayed during the Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon and the location was perfect. Trek bike shop near by, food not far away and close to race start. The staff were great, rooms were big and bus stop out the front. It really was the best spot for this race. The bath was good post race as well. Overall highly recommend!
We were in a room on Fillmore street across from a beer garden. To no fault of the hotel, we had a lot of noise that made it hard to sleep until after the bar closed each night. That being said, the room was perfect, the car was safe, we had an incredible stay. Next time I’ll bring earplugs and will stay here again and again. Thank you all!

Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service
Clean room, parking and good location. Our favorite spot all the time.
Though outdated, there are large rooms, parking on-site, and heaters. They’re cozy. And I’ve stayed on multiple occasions now. Lots to do too in the area.
I want to preface this review by mentioning that this is the fourth hotel, all of the same price range, that I’ve stayed in for the past week while my husband and I travel the California coast.
Pros: Front staff were very helpful and friendly. Parking was safe and secure in locked garage. Room was clean and had an air of elegance(though somewhat dated) it was large and roomy. The location was good. First appearances were very pleasant.
Cons: bed linens were very starched and uncomfortable. Blanket was like a thin piece of cardboard, very stiff. Towels were old, rough and thin. Pillows sunk straight to the mattress. I know everyone likes different kinds of pillows but there are more “middle of the road” pillows that can please many. There was no refrigerator or microwave. The coffee pot had old coffee grinds in it from who knows how long. They attempted to add more plug in outlets to one side of the bed. In this day and age everyone has multiple devices to be charged. My husband wasn’t happy about that.
Overall it looked clean and pretty but ultimately my comfort is more important to me. The cons are all “easy fixes” if the hotel cares. I had a horrible night’s sleep which is not fun while on vacation.
