"We weren't prepared for how remote this property is and the extended rainy season made it even more so with very poor road conditions. Be sure to stock up on EVERYTHING you'll need before going up there as a trip to any store or restaurant will be lengthy. We had to leave after staying only one of our two nights as we just didn't have enough food. There is a restaurant on the property which would have been a complete game changer but it wasn't open during our visit in mid-November. The times...

"Small hotel with a nice made to order restaurant. Within walking distance of everything you need. Across the street is a grocery store, down the street is the beach, coffee shops, many different restaurants. I was there with two children (10, 11,) and my husband and we felt safe the entire time. The hotel has security and closes a gate at night. Would stay here again and would definitely recommend. We saw cool birds, iguanas and monkeys while there! "

"We had a nice stay overall, with a mix of highs and a few quirks. The space itself was nice and private, and we really loved how quiet and tucked away it felt—perfect if you’re looking to relax. The beds were comfortable, and the AC worked great, which made a big difference. There were a few downsides worth noting. We encountered a couple of spiders in the room and quite a few ants (though they do provide bug spray in the bathroom, which helps). We also had unwanted visitors at night including a raccoon and a skunk was very close….too close. The room had a slight cat odor, and the private pool/tub unfortunately wasn’t working during our stay. The outdoor pool area is definitely not a highlight. The walk to the beach is longer and a bit dusty, so we ended up renting a golf cart—which made getting around much easier and is something I’d recommend. Breakfast has recently shifted to a more continental style, I wish we knew this prior because it wasn’t enough unless you start the mornings with fruit (which was fresh and do yummy) and toast. the coffee was fantastic. Overall, everything was fine for an “budget” hotel. But I’m looking for something a little different on my next visit to Tamarindo. Lastly, the owners were always around and willing to help, which we appreciated."

"Was a bit disappointed with our stay here. I’d read that the rooms were a bit dated, but it was rundown in aspects as well. The window in our bathroom had a broken hinge, the towels were old and tattered, the faucet discoloured, but the worst part was the bugs in the room. There was an ant (?) infestation - they’d burrowed a few holes into the bathroom doorframe and they were coming in and out of them and we found them in various places around the room. There were other various bugs we found over the three nights, so never felt settled. I know this is a tropical area, but we didn’t encounter this to this degree elsewhere. That said, the staff were very nice and when we went to the front desk about the ants they came and sprayed the room. Unfortunately, we still found stragglers and other new bugs during the rest of our stay. The hotel is within walking distance to a beach, but we ultimately preferred other beaches with vendors and amenities, which required a drive either to Carrillo or central Samara. "

Casa Nahua Hotel in Tamarindo

"Our stay at Casa Nahua was extremely disappointing and far below what the property’s presentation suggests. From arrival, the lack of a proper check-in process was concerning. There was no real reception, no structured welcome, and no meaningful ID verification. From a basic guest security standpoint, that is unacceptable and immediately undermined confidence. The Deluxe Double Room was in poor condition. We arrived to find it full of flies. The outdoor concrete slab was severely cracked, the interior walls were cracked, and the plastic wall behind the bed was old, worn, and dirty. The bathroom was also badly designed: the shower drain was clogged, the shower was not properly enclosed so water spilled everywhere, and the shower head was installed too close to the furniture. The room sealing and sound insulation were also very poor. Geckos got into the room through gaps in the walls, and at night we could hear music from downtown and people walking on the floor above us, making rest difficult. The pool was consistently dirty and appeared poorly maintained. Overall, Casa Nahua felt neglected, poorly managed, and misleading relative to its online presentation. I would not recommend it."
