If staying in Basel, I highly recommend the Hotel Schweizerhof. It is conveniently located one block from the Central Train Station, making our day trip to Lucerne very easy. And it is across the street from the local trams, which makes getting to the old town, or anywhere in the city, very easy. I love that staying in any hotel in Basel gives you a free public transportation ticket for the duration of your stay. It even included our bus trip to the airport. The breakfast buffet was very good each morning plus there is a grocery store and several restaurants in the Central Station for lunch and dinner, and they are open on Sundays when most other places in Basel are closed. Staff spoke excellent English and were extremely helpful as we navigated the city. Great stay!
