"The location is good because it is slightly off the main road but a close walk into the main town/beach area. The condo was clean and so was the property. There are nice views and fun pools my son and I enjoyed. There wasn’t a lot of extra things at the condo like coffee, soaps or spices/oils for cooking. Overall, the condo was comfortable, but we were gone most of the time on the beach! Cynthia, the property manager was helpful and gave us good information on the area."

"We only booked one night for my family for a weekend getaway from Tamarindo, but wish we'd stayed longer! The house was very clean, with a well-equipped kitchen and plenty of towels. It's tucked back a bit from the lovely pool which is nice, it felt very private, and the property is very close to some terrific places to eat (and the beach, of course!). We also appreciated the access to a shared washer and dryer in good condition on-site. We hope to come back soon."

"The property and villas were stunning! Staff was very knowledgeable and attentive. Everyone knew us by name! Loved having breakfast included with many delicious options. Having a stand alone villa was a treat. No noisy neighbors! We spent a couple mornings at the main pool and usually ended up in our plunge pool in the afternoons. The views from everywhere are amazing! Although we loved our Sunset Villa, it was warm in the late afternoon when trying to get ready for dinner. No way to block out the sun in the bathroom. The town of Las Catalinas was a bit of a let down. Maybe because we were there off season but other than a few restaurants, there wasn't anything going on. No shops or entertainment. Pretty beach but no place to rent beach chairs and make a day of it. The only excursion we did was a coffee/chocolate tour at Tio Leo Coffee. Highly recommend! It was about 1 hour away. Very relaxing trip, which is what we were looking for. Casa Chameleon made us feel very special."

"Steps from the beach this property has the potential to be amazing. Some noticeable draw backs were- fire ants coming up through the shower drain ( the care takers responded to the issue immediately). The AC remote needs replacing (the screen was broken so you could not adjust anything), as well as maintenance on the AC. Our biggest complaint with our stay was unfortunately due to the door being too small for the frame the Jejenes or no-see-ums were able to get into the room, It made it hard to sleep at night. We would wake up everyday with bug bites every day.The end tables are beginning to come off of the wall. Fix those things and this place could be spectacular! This location does have one of the best beaches right outside your door, so even with the issues it was a beautiful location."

Santarena Hotel at Las Catalinas

"Just a heads up that this is not a typical hotel experience. The property feels more like a quiet, underdeveloped residential area than a full-service hotel, which may or may not be what you’re looking for. There were very limited services and amenities, and whenever we asked staff for help, they often seemed confused or unsure how to assist. It felt less like hospitality and more like we were inconveniencing them, which was disappointing—especially given that we were there for our honeymoon. The hotel itself is nice enough and the rooms are clean, but the overall experience didn’t match expectations. The property was nearly empty during our stay (we only saw a couple of other guests), yet we were given a city-facing room instead of an ocean view. When we asked if there were other options, we were told the hotel was fully booked, which didn’t align with what we were seeing. The broader development also felt a bit unusual—very quiet, somewhat sterile, and lacking the character or energy you might expect in a destination like Costa Rica. Overall, it’s not a bad place, but it’s important to set expectations before booking."
