I have stayed at the Waterloo over many years whenever we have had a stopover in wellington. I have found it to be well placed in the city with both the train station and bus hub close by. Te papa is just a short walk away along the waterfront and if arriving by ferry the bluebridge ferry terminal is across the road, the interislander runs a shuttle bus to the train station . So as you can see the Waterloo is an ideal place to stay. All facilities are available with many choices of places to dine close by.

Spilt coffee (?) on wall needs wiping off. Grime around room and in shared bathroom needs cleaning. Toilet brush was very dirty. Bed was comfortable and clean. Staff very helpful. Location great. Would stay again if rooms were cleaner.

Unbeatable value for money. Stayed here a few times already, check in is always super quick, friendly staff, and the last few times we've only had to share the bathroom with one other room. Sure, it's a bit dated, but it's clean, so who cares? It's a little far from town, but still walking distance, plus it's right next to the train station and if you're going to the cake tin, it's great. Subway, Maccas and a pub in the same building, plus plenty of restaurants in walking distance. Even has an elevator. Really can't fault anything with this place.

Staying in the Waterloo Hotel always with a sense of wonder how long this has accommodated peoples stay. Queen Elizabeth stayed here! You get as much or as little out of this stay as you like. Meeting people in the elevator, nice chat. Staff who are always willing to increase the comfort of the stay. There were a couple of earth quakes. I on the 5th floor, but the building gently swayed and all was well :)

The single room with ensuite I booked was clean and perfectly adequate for a short overnight stay. The building is very old so there is no soundproofing from the windows and the hotel can be quite noisy at times during the night. Overall, good value for money considering it's central location
